Qualifications Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas teaching certificate for visual arts and level assigned ESL Certification preferred or ESL Certification required within two (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in 2010-11 school year Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of subjects assigned General knowledge of design and delivery issues related to alignment for best results in student achievement Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Experience: Student teaching or approved internship Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Cooperate with other members of staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s). Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process. Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal assessments and use results to plan instructional activities. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal. Demonstrate proficient artist skills within the classroom setting. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. Participate in district defined visual arts activities, competitions, and exhibitions. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Classroom Management and Organization Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Keep informed and comply with all safety precautions pertaining to art supplies (including maintaining accurate MSDS files), the kiln and HAZMAT awareness. Communication Present positive role model for students, support mission of school district. Establish and maintain open communications by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission. Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement. Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area. Policy, Reports, and Law Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Keep informed and comply with all district visual arts guidelines. Attend all meetings as requested to review, create, and revise visual arts curriculum, policies, procedures and activities. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. The employee is expected to adhere to district employee/department/campus handbooks, board policies, AISD procedures, the district Code of Conduct, the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics and all applicable laws. Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief. Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy and the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS).
