Teacher, Special Education (Co-Teacher) (2026-2027 School Year) Starting Date: Immediately Days per Year: 187 Pay: Minimum $62,750 (Based on 2025-2026 Pay Scale) Reports To: Principal Wage/Hear Status: Exempt Primary Purpose The Special Education Co-Teacher is responsible for instruction of eligible handicapped students assigned by the Admission, Review and Dismissal Committee within the special education program and curriculum guidelines. All employees are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate in a clear and respectful manner, champion students' needs, and drive continuous improvement. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments. Preferred Qualifications Minimum of one-year student teaching and approved internship Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Major Responsibilities and Duties Implement instructional program, utilizing knowledge of learning styles and modalities, correlating IEP with regular education curriculum guides, and requisitioning materials, equipment and supplies needed for implementation. Serve as a member of the ARD/IEP Committee, administering criterion-referenced testing and recommending appropriate goals and objectives based on results, and participating in placement decisions based on educational, sociological and physiological data presented to the committee. Assist regular school personnel in providing an appropriate educational environment for students included in the general education classroom by establishing new objectives based on the appraisal team's findings, redesigning curriculum to suit new objectives, suggesting and providing alternative teaching methods, serving as a co‑teacher or in‑class support for a specific subject area, assessing relation between student performance and disabling condition, and providing remedial or tutorial assistance to students. Utilize the special education staff and coordinate input to meet the needs of each special education child. Request and coordinate available special services of the District as needed. Establish frequent communication and cooperation with the student’s family to facilitate environmental changes necessary to premeditate learning and/or behavioral changes. Maintain confidential records of assigned students and complete end‑of‑year reports and other evaluations. Fulfill campus duties as assigned to other teachers' subjects only to program needs of the special education child. Compile with the position description of the regular classroom teacher as applies to special education students in co‑teach or in‑class support situations. Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the principal. Working Conditions Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling, moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift or position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non‑ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
