Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele Oncology position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and a valid OH or compact RN license.

Details

• work in a mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit at a cancer hospital caring for medical oncology patients, approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds
• Patient population includes a variety of diagnoses from solid tumors to some blood cancers with high acuity
• Rare pediatric patients may be present on the unit but are primarily cared for by permanent staff
• Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic charting system experience required
• 12-hour rotating Day/Night shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30), schedule reviewed every 4-week period based on staffing needs
• Weekend shifts are variable
• Staffing ratios aim for 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of current inpatient acute care nursing experience required in the specialty applied for, with consistent work in the last 12 months
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Epic EMR experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central/peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response/code team protocols
• Familiarity with isolation precautions and PPE use
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care on a mixed acuity oncology unit with a strong focus on infection prevention and fall prevention protocols
• Chemotherapy competence is not required; training via a 2-day chemo course is available for interested candidates
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued; previous travel experience is preferred but not required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate
• Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 or more months
• Current employees of the health system are ineligible to work as travelers at any of its Ohio hospital locations
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing their contract due to strict credentialing timelines
• Requested time off must be submitted and built into the contract at the time of consideration, limited to 7 days or less
