Travel RN - Telemetry - Progressive Care Unit

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a new high-acuity Progressive Care Unit at a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring 2 years of ICU or PCU experience and Swan-Ganz/Impella skills.

Job Details

• New high-acuity PCU opening in a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital with 885 licensed beds,
• Unit will transition to an ICU by the end of 2026,
• 10-12 bed unit caring for heavy cardiac patients including CHF, cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI, post-cath, dysrhythmias, arrhythmias, post-pacemaker/ablation, post-CABG/open heart, heart transplant, and post-vascular surgery patients,
• Initial patient ratio of 1:3-4, transitioning to 1:2-3 once unit becomes ICU,
• 12-hour night shifts, 1830-0700, 36 hours per week,
• Every other weekend rotation required,
• No on-call or call-back requirements,
• May float within scope of practice to other units such as 7 Ardmore, 7 Reynolds, 5 Reynolds, Day Hospital, or 5CC West, in rotation with other travelers,
• EMR: EPIC,
• IV Pump: Alaris; Medication dispensing via Omnicell,

Job Requirements

• Active RN license (NC or Compact) required,
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required,
• Minimum 2 years of ICU or PCU experience required, with CVICU experience preferred,
• Beginning late September/early October 2026, 2 years of ICU-specific experience will be required,
• Swan-Ganz and Impella experience required,
• Skilled in wound care, dressing changes, defibrillation, EKG interpretation, post-arrest care, cardioversion, sheath management, BiPAP/CPAP/high-flow oxygen, chest tubes, trachs, arterial lines, and drip management (pressors, cardiac, sedation),
• Experience with LVAD and post-cardiac transplant patients highly preferred, though training is available,
• EPIC EMR experience preferred,
• Minimum 12 months of core work experience in the specialty unit, with recent experience within the last year,
• At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN,
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration,

Additional Information

• Care for a heavy cardiac patient population including post-transplant, post-CABG, and post-vascular surgery patients,
• Will manage vented patients and fresh open-heart cases once the unit transitions to ICU,
• IABP support accepted once unit transitions to ICU; ECMO not used,
• Unit supported by a CNA, charge nurse, phlebotomy, PICC team, resource nurse, 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage, plus resident physician support,
• Remote tele techs monitor patients and contact RNs directly for issues,
• Orientation includes NEO plus two shifts on the hired shift,
• Scrub color required: Royal Blue,
