Position Overview The Northern District of Mississippi is accepting applications for an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) position in its Criminal Division. Attorneys in the Criminal Division are responsible for the prosecution of a variety of crimes under federal law including violent crime, fraud, public corruption, illegal immigration, child pornography, human trafficking, drug violations, firearms violations, terrorism, and asset forfeiture. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Qualifications U.S. citizen. J.D. degree, duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of the State territory or the District of Columbia, with at least three (3) years of post-J.D. experience. Active membership in good standing of the bar (any jurisdiction). Demonstrated analytical ability and capacity to articulate critical issues in a case clearly and precisely. Superior oral and writing skills, strong research and interpersonal skills, and sound judgment. Excellent communication and courtroom skills; ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, support staff, and client agencies. Capacity to function independently in a highly demanding environment. Preferred Candidate At least five (5) years of criminal litigation experience is preferred, although we consider applicants with a range of legal backgrounds. The ideal applicant will possess superior communication and courtroom skills, exceptional research and writing ability, and a high degree of professionalism and ethical standards. You must function with minimal supervision in a demanding work environment. Salary Information Assistant United States Attorney's pay is based on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The basic pay range is $76,748 – $197,100, including 17.06% locality pay.
