Posting Details Job Title Instructor, Computer Integrated Machining - Adjunct Full Time/Part Time Part-time Job Description Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College areresponsible for supporting student success by creating an optimumlearning environment, responding to student needs, managingeffective instructional activities, modeling employability skills,demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative workrelationships with other faculty and staff, supporting collegeadministrative requirements, and maintaining competency in theirinstructional field. He/she will be responsible for qualityinstruction and for effective participation and interest in thetotal affairs of the college. Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teachcomputer integrated machining courses designed for career technicalprograms. The faculty member must be able to instruct a widevariety of topics within the curriculum in a laboratory environmentand may be required to teach day, evening and/or weekendhours. Duties/Functions Teaching Prepare & teach departmental courses to include: developing learner centered lesson plans employing teaching strategies & instructional materials fordifferent learning styles incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technologyin classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments creating and modeling a quality learning environment thatsupports a diverse student population preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional supportmaterials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials,instructional media and other devices as appropriate conducting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes incourses and programs/general education as appropriate Professional Development Maintain a professional status that supports the instructionalmission by: participating in professional development activities to maintaincurrency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures asrequired by program or accreditation participating in professional development opportunities toadvance teaching skills and strategies Administration Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment andstudent records to include: maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep ofassigned equipment providing for the security of facilities, equipment andinstructional materials and maintaining safe workingconditions maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) inaccordance with established deadlines using a variety oftechnology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor,Moodle) compliance with all applicable college, state and federal rulesand regulations Student Support Provide an environment conducive to student success toinclude: addressing student concerns in a timely manner promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to developstrategies for success referring students to campus and community resources whenappropriate Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills:adaptability, communication, information processing, problemsolving, responsibility and teamwork. Difficult Challenges Education Required Associate’s degree in machining or a related field from aregionally accredited institution. National Institute for Metalworking Skills ( NIMS ) certificationsfor teaching assignment or the qualifications/experience to attainthem within one year of hire. Education Preferred Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Experience Required 3 years of relevant industry experience in computer integratedmachining, or related field. Experience Preferred More than 3 years of relevant industry experience in computerintegrated machining. Post-secondary teaching and/or industry training experience. Experience with set-up and operation of conversationalmills/lathes. Experience with multi-axis on both lathes and mills. Experience with set-up and operation of CNC equipment. Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes. Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructionaldelivery systems. KSA Required The Instructor shall possess an understanding of and commitment tothe nature and role of the Community College, particularly its“open door” policy. He/she shall have demonstrated personal andprofessional competence for the responsibilities assigned. Physical Requirements The person in this position will follow general industry safetystandards while performing instructional duties as set forth byOSHA, NC Dept. of Labor, and/or Guilford Technical CommunityCollege. The work environment will vary in classroom and labsettings. The person in this position must be able to remain in astationary position for extended periods of time.
