Position overview:

A pediatric dental assistant prepares treatment rooms, assists the dentist during exams and procedures, takes dental X-rays, sterilizes instruments, and keeps supplies organized. Because the patients are children, the assistant also helps create a calm, friendly experience by explaining steps in simple terms, offering reassurance, and using a gentle, patient approach.

Common duties include:

• Greeting and preparing young patients for treatment
• Performs prophylaxis and assists dentist during fillings, sealants, and other procedures
• Sterilizing instruments and maintaining infection control
• Taking dental X-rays and documenting patient information
• Setting up and cleaning treatment rooms
• Educating children and parents on brushing, flossing, and oral hygiene
• Helping manage patient flow and appointment readiness
• Supporting behavior guidance and comfort for anxious children

• Patience and kindness
• Organization and teamwork  
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work well with children and families
• Understanding of dental procedures and safety protocols

Qualifications:

·         High school diploma or equivalent

·         Certified Dental Assistant Certificate
