Mead Botanical Garden, Inc. | Winter Park, Florida Position Type: Part-Time Hours: 10-12 hours/week, plus 3 to 4 for month end Reports to: Executive Director & Board of Trustees, Finance Committee Grow Your Career While Supporting a Winter Park Treasure Mead Botanical Garden, Inc. is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to oversee the organization's day-to-day nonprofit accounting operations and help ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting. Working closely with the Executive Director, Finance Committee, staff, and external accounting partners, the Sr Accountant will play an important role in maintaining strong nonprofit financial systems and supporting Mead Botanical Garden, Inc. continued growth and sustainability. What You'll Do The Senior Accountant will oversee the Nonprofit Organization's full accounting cycle and maintain financial records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable nonprofit accounting standards. Key responsibilities include Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, deposits, and transaction processing. Maintain accurate accounting records and classifications in QuickBooks Online . Reconcile bank, merchant accounts, payment-processing, and other financial accounts. Process bi-weekly payroll through Mead's payroll provider and prepare related journal entries and allocations. Complete month-end accounting activities, including accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, liabilities, payroll allocations, and other recurring journal entries. Maintain accurate accounting for programs, events, grants, and restricted and unrestricted funds. Prepare and review monthly financial statements and financial reports for the Executive Director, Finance Committee, and Board of Trustees. Analyze financial results, budget-to-actual variance explanations, trends, and identify issues requiring management attention. Prepare applicable regulatory filings, 1099s, and other required accounting and tax documentation. Support the annual audit and year-end close by preparing reconciliations, schedules, supporting documentation, and responses to auditor requests. Support annual budgeting, forecasting, grant compliance, and financial reporting. Help strengthen accounting procedures, financial systems, and internal controls as the organization grows. What We're Looking For The successful candidate will have a strong technical accounting foundation and be comfortable independently managing recurring accounting responsibilities and deadlines for a nonprofit institution. Required qualifications include Strong working knowledge of GAAP and accrual accounting. Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional nonprofit accounting experience. 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online . Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel , including pivot tables and reporting. Full cycle accounting experience, including AP/AR, bank reconciliations, payroll, journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, liabilities, and financial reporting. Experience preparing GAAP-based financial statements and supporting schedules. Experience supporting an annual financial audit. Excellent attention to detail, organization, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, meet recurring deadlines, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound professional judgment. Nonprofit accounting experience. Experience with restricted and unrestricted funds. We'd Especially Like to Meet Candidates With Grant accounting and compliance experience. Fund, class, program, or event-based accounting experience. Experience supporting a nonprofit Board or Finance Committee. Budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis experience. Familiarity with payment platforms such as Square, merchant accounts reconciliations, and automatic payment solutions or similar systems. Experience with payroll platforms such as ADP online or similar providers.
