Position Overview

Mountain Park Patient Care Center in Waldorf, Maryland, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant to join our dynamic Liver Transplant department. This full-time role is integral to providing high-quality care to patients undergoing liver and abdominal transplant procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings. As a key member of our surgical team, you will manage preoperative and postoperative patients, ensuring they receive comprehensive medical care from diagnosis through recovery.

Work Environment

This position is based onsite at our state-of-the-art hospital facility located in Waldorf, Maryland. You will work a standard five-day schedule within an 8-hour shift structure from Monday to Friday, with requirements for on-call duties each month.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough evaluations and treatment plans for pre- and post-operative liver and abdominal transplant patients, managing both acute and chronic comorbidities.
• Obtain comprehensive medical histories and perform physical examinations, utilizing clinical protocols to assess normal and abnormal findings.
• Request and interpret diagnostic studies such as lab results, imaging, and other tests to aid in comprehensive patient assessments.
• Prescribe medications in accordance with medical protocols, ensuring that patient-specific approvals from supervising physicians are obtained as required for controlled substances.
• Facilitate coordination of care for patients both in inpatient settings and upon discharge to outpatient follow-ups, improving patient throughput and continuity of care.
• Educate and counsel patients and their families on health maintenance, symptom management, and postoperative care plans.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in the OR and across departmental services to ensure seamless patient transitions and thorough discharge planning.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The Physician Assistant in this role will primarily focus on patients from diverse backgrounds requiring liver and abdominal transplants. You will engage with patients who present with a variety of acute and chronic health concerns, emphasizing the importance of holistic care. Our patient population includes both new and returning patients, often dealing with complex health issues that require sensitive, informed, and intensive care interventions.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or a related field, with some experience in surgical care or transplantation preferred. A valid Physician Assistant license and board certification are required prior to employment. Strong communication skills, clinical judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment are essential for this role.

Preferred Experience

Ideal candidates will have prior experience in gastroenterology, hepatology, or surgical assistance, particularly in transplant surgery or critical care settings. Compensation and Benefits

Mountain Park Patient Care Center offers a competitive salary range of $160,000 to $200,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
