Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stroke Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years in acute care License: Active RN License Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS Must-Have: PCU level RN experience NIHSS experience CVL management/placement Foley catheter management Tube feedings via NGT or PEG Arterial lines experience Diabetes management Drip titration for Levophed (preferred), Amiodarone, Cardizem, Insulin Description: The position requires proficiency in managing patients with CVA and TIA. Travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care. Travelers must be separated for 1 year if previously a permanent staff member. Adequate personal protective equipment will be provided. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1:3. Charge nurses will take patient assignments based on staffing needs. Phlebotomy services are not available on the unit. A VAT team is available for PICC/midline placement. Resource nurses will be present on the unit. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Clientists are accessible around the clock. The electronic medical record system used is Meditech Expanse. IV pumps utilized are Alaris, and medication dispensing is managed through Pyxis. Floating between units such as stepdown and med-surg will occur frequently. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation every other weekend. Travelers will work four days one week and three days the following week, which is mandatory. Request for time off is limited to one weekend per contract period. Travelers will not be required to be on-call. Holiday expectations include working two out of three major holidays. Professionalism is a mandatory requirement, with restrictions on cell phone usage in patient care areas, no earbuds, and no eating at the desk. Scrub color must be pewter, with gray, white, or black t-shirts allowed. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times.
