SHIFT

A BRIEF OVERVIEW
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist assists with safety and environmental activities as they relate to compliance with Federal and State regulations and company policies. The EHS Specialist is responsible and accountable to the Director of Global EHS and Regulatory Compliance. They are accountable for both the Chelsea, MI and Detroit, MI locations.

• Assist with conducting safety training with employees on a variety of health and safety topics, and tracks training needs
• Conduct periodic safety and environmental inspections of all workplace facilities, documents findings, and initiates corrective actions
• Participate on the Safety Committee and facilitates safety meetings, as necessary, including the championing of safety action items
• Assist with review and assessment of the company’s safety and environmental programs
• Assist in the development of training records and documenting training needs and training deficiencies related to Environmental, Health and Safety.
• Develop and disseminates manuals and documentation around health and safety.
• Collect, deliver, prepare, and transfer many types of chemicals and other sensitive/hazardous materials.
• Monitor EH&S supplies and maintains adequate levels of required supplies
• Assist in recycle program
• Cultivate a Safety-Focused Culture:
  • Coordinate and cultivate an exceptional safety-focused culture with support from the site leadership team.
  • Champion continuous improvement of EH&S programs, procedures, and tools to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure effective and sustainable EH&S systems, programs, and processes are in place.
• Risk Assessments and Safety Assessments:
  • Conduct ergonomic risk assessments and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Ensure hazard assessments are completed for all new equipment or processes.
• Auditing and Training:
  • Develop and coordinate internal auditing processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Develop and conduct EH&S training programs for all employees as required by state and federal guidelines.
  • Serve as a lead interface with OSHA, EPA, or any other local, state, or federal agency.
• First Responder Management and Hazardous Waste:
  • Manage the First Responder program and annual training requirements.
  • Manage SDS requirements and updates.
  • Manage the hazardous waste management program.
• Safety Committee Coordination and Injury Investigations:
  • Coordinate safety committee activities.
  • Lead injury investigation and follow-up activities.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Or Equivalent (Required)
• Bachelor (Preferred)

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

• 1+ Years of experience supporting/implementing EH&S in a manufacturing environment (Preferred)
• 1+ Years of Experience Leading EH&S Programs (Preferred)
• 5+ Years of experience in a safety-focused manufacturing environment (Preferred)

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

• 50% Between supported sites

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) - Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) (Preferred)
• First Aid/CPR/AED for Schools and the Community - American Red Cross (Preferred)
• Certified Hazard Control Manager (CHCM) - Board of Hazard Control Management (HCM) (Preferred)
