RN Clinical Nurse II- Intermediate Neurosciences & ENT Unit Part Time

Unit Overview Experienced Nurses needed for the new Intermediate Neurosciences and Otolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery (ENT) Unit at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC. The new unit will open in Summer 2026. The unit has 18 beds, including 4 for epilepsy monitoring. Patients include ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, epilepsy, spine injury, neuromuscular illness, neurodegenerative illness, neurotrauma, and central nervous system infections. ENT patients primarily present with head and neck malignancies requiring surgical interventions. Physician teams are nationally recognized innovators. Eligible for a benefits package. Position Summary The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting. This is a 24-hour/week position with rotating day, night, and weekend shifts and flexible self-scheduling. Responsibilities Educate: Identify and meet learning needs of self and patients; attend education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness to learn for patients, families, and caregivers. Evaluate Care: Identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance for plan of care revisions; discuss patient care evaluation with interdisciplinary team; communicate relevant info to ensure continuity of care. Implementation: Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems; perform bedside point-of-care testing as required; apply organization policies and procedures; prioritize care according to patient and family needs; consult timely regarding complex issues, teaching needs, or high-risk discharge planning. Leadership: Develop professional growth goals; achieve or renegotiate objectives; promote interdepartmental collaboration and unit goals; use effective communication; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback; maintain safe, clean, and secure environment. Patient Assessment: Determine priorities from assessment data; include physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs; anticipate discharge needs; build relationships with families to support patient advocacy. Planning: Collaborate with patient and family to update the plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; address cultural and ethnic considerations; prioritize tasks for complex cases. Research: Review relevant journals; bring ideas and questions to staff for practice applicability. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree majoring in Nursing or a Master’s degree majoring in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One year of nursing experience.
