Cytotechnologist Per Diem

Position Summary Knowledge of body systems to facilitate the evaluation of specimens obtained by a variety of techniques to include fine needle aspiration of major organ systems and subcutaneous masses; knowledge sufficient to check correlation and validity of results. Position: Cytotechnologist Department: Pathology Schedule: Per Diem Essential Responsibilities / Duties Provides technically sound, accurate, patient focused testing by prioritizing “rush” and routine samples; verification of specimen identification; ensuring appropriateness of sample for requested testing; ensuring quality and quantity of sample; ensuring correct and appropriate accessioning, testing or allocating is performed; proper CoPath data entry. Understand and adheres to Policy and Procedure Manuals, Standard Operating Manuals and Quality Control Manuals in compliance with CAP & CLIA. Participate in preparation for CAP and JCAHO accreditation inspection. Support cytology supervisors as necessary, gather statistics, evaluate laboratory preparedness, etc. Promote effective relationships with all hospital personnel as part of the hospital’s commitment to quality patient care. Actively participate in Quality Advancement/Improvement activities according to SOP. Understand the relationship between relevant clinical data and a variety of complex, similar, yet different often-overlapping morphological changes in cytology samples. Interpret clinical presentations of disease and apply such knowledge with microscopic findings to achieve an appropriate and accurate final diagnosis. Provide a scope of judgment which includes subjective microscopic evaluations based on combinations of academic instruction, technical training, quality and quantity of experience and coalesced knowledge and skills. Participate in the CAP interlaboratory continuing education program. Participate in and pass Proficiency Testing annually. Follow infection control and safety procedures. Job Requirements Education A science-based bachelor’s or associate degree. 1 year of specialty training at an accredited school of Cytotechnology, in addition to a bachelor’s degree or associate degree. Graduation from an accredited school of Cytotechnology, with a science-based bachelor’s degree. Graduation from an accredited school of Cytotechnology with a science-based associate’s degree and at least 3 years of technical experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required certification, CT (ASCP) or equivalent. Registration with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry within 1 year of employment. Experience Experience preferred but not required. Knowledge and Skills Professional knowledge of Cytotechnology principles, concepts and methodology sufficient to perform a broad range of tests, including microscopic analysis of Gyn, Nongyn, and Fine Needle Aspirate cellular specimens. Compensation Range: $41.27 - $50.31 per hour. Compensation is based on education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
