Job Title: MedSurg/Tele Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: This facility has 457 licensed beds and is a Trauma Level III teaching hospital. It has been designated a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence. The average daily census on this unit is 8 patients with a total of 10 beds. Patient types commonly encountered include chest pain, syncope, and angina. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, while CNA support is at 1:10. Key skills required include stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, and chest tube management. Additional responsibilities may include NGT placement, drain/tube management, and PCA pump management. Medication management will involve cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IV fluids. Support within the department includes supervisory staff, charge RNs, and resource RNs for admissions and discharges. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, and hospitalists are also accessible around the clock. Floating to other nursing units may be necessary based on patient care needs and staffing demands. Travel nurses will be expected to demonstrate adaptability and clinical flexibility when floating to other units. Weekend rotations are required every other weekend. Holidays will require working 75% of the observed holidays. Requests for time off can be approved for up to 6 days, excluding holidays. The department promotes a great team environment, with activities such as a unit book club and Netflix clubs. All are welcomed as part of the team.
