The HR enterprise consists of the Partnership for Strategy and Innovation (Partnership), People Services, Health HR, Campus HR, and the Office of the Senior Vice President and Vice Chancellor, Human Resources. The Partnership serves as a strategic center responsible for planning and implementing strategic initiatives across the entire UCI HR enterprise. People Services is a trusted partner in providing administrative support functions that allow the UCI community to focus on their core functions to accomplish the UCI mission of teaching, research, public service, and patient care. Members of the Partnership and People Services work in close collaboration with all three business units to leverage expertise across the enterprise. Responsibilities Reporting to the Director of Client Services, the Sr. HR Business Partner (Sr. HRBP) partners closely with leaders across an assigned client portfolio to develop and implement comprehensive people strategies. The Sr. HRBP provides expert strategic guidance and consultation, grounded in deep knowledge of modern HR practice, the regulatory environment, and labor and employment law. As the primary point of contact for assigned clients, the Sr. HRBP works collaboratively to identify and deliver effective HR solutions, drawing on the expertise of departmental subject matter experts as appropriate. Client‑centric by nature, the Sr. HRBP cultivates a thorough understanding of each client’s strategic objectives and day‑to‑day operations, translating deep HR expertise into practical guidance and recommendations that inform and advance strategic direction. The Sr. HRBP navigates the most complex and nuanced human resources matters, applying rigorous analysis of data, multifaceted variables, and broader organizational implications to produce carefully considered recommendations. Qualifications Required: Expert knowledge of employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, training and other areas of human resources as well as organization initiatives relating to and/or affecting human resources. Solid functional expertise in employee relations and compensation. Demonstrated expert knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work affects other areas in Human Resources and the organization. Possesses expert analytical, active listening and critical thinking skills to provide strategic direction for HR practices and procedures, conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem‑solving skills. Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to present complex information. Demonstrated ability to handle the most difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization. Demonstrated ability to establish credibility, trust and influence with senior leaders. Computer literacy, to include experience with HRIS enterprise systems. Demonstrated experience in group presentation and facilitation. Ability to make decisions regarding hiring, evaluating, and development of subordinates. Excellent management skills that include collaboration, coaching and developing subordinates; ability to build relationships. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training A minimum of 7 years of progressively broad and functionally diverse HR experience Preferred: Experience working in a complex or matrix organization. Previous experience working with labor unions. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP Certification or PHR or SPHR Certification. Minimum 3 years supervising others. Special Conditions: Supports UC Irvine Campus locations; must be able to reliably report to different worksites on campus to support client needs, with little notice. Some travel may be required to other UC Irvine work locations. The incumbent must be able to provide their own means of transportation to/from work locations. Hybrid role may be considered.
