Job Description

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Office Assistant 2 for the Palmer Correctional Center (PCC), located in Sutton, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:

Under the general supervision of Administrative Officer 2 and Administrative Assistant 2, reviews and processes staff payroll within Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS) on a biweekly basis. Reviews time sheets for accuracy and corrects errors and records batch numbers, calculate and input payroll hours according to bargaining union agreements. Advise employees and supervisors on payroll and leave issues. Investigate pay problems and complaints and resolve or forward for action as needed. Schedules inmate travel upon release and codes invoices for processing.

Palmer Correctional Center is a medium and minimum custody facility located in Sutton which houses up to 500 inmates and 107 employees. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or the equivalent. AND One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs. Substitution: Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the minimum qualifications listed above. If utilizing this education, you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. post-secondary institution reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the post-secondary institution. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

If using work experience not already documented in your application, also provide the employer name, your job title, dates of employment, and whether full-or part-time. Please be aware – this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
