Job Overview Position: Outreach Athletic Trainer Department: 50115 Regional Non Enterprise Corporate - Athletic Trainers Full time, 40 hours per week. Schedule includes weekend and holiday work. Pay range: $28.55 - $42.85. UNC Charlotte Athletics and Atrium Health Athletic Training collaborate to provide comprehensive, on‑site sports medicine services to student‑athletes across the Charlotte region. Job Description Under the direction of the Associate Director of Athletic Training Services, the outreach athletic trainer provides day‑to‑day medical coverage in collegiate and/or professional sports settings. Responsibilities focus on injury prevention, human movement correction, immediate care, clinical evaluation, rehabilitation, reconditioning, return‑to‑play determination, concussion management, and collaborative service excellence with the Sports Medicine Team. Major Responsibilities Provide athletic training services to collegiate and/or professional sport events as required. Assist the Sports Medicine Team with event coverage. Deliver acute medical care to athletes on the field during practices or official games. Provide clinical services in local orthopedic clinics when necessary. Recognize, evaluate, and address illness and injury, including emergency situations. Conduct clinical injury evaluation and assessment of functional level. Determine appropriate therapeutic treatment and provide rehabilitation, reconditioning strategies, and taping/wrapping or bracing for protective treatment. Implement treatment programs with long‑ and short‑term goals, and assess effectiveness using validated measures. Collaborate with the directing physician to recommend discontinuation of service when rehabilitation goals are met. Determine return‑to‑play standards for injuries and active populations. Maintain daily treatment logs, injury reports, physician referrals, and medical inventory records. Set up all practice and game logistics (supplies, equipment, cryotherapy, hydration, etc.). Assist with planning, organizing, implementing, and ensuring compliance with departmental policies. Establish and discuss an Emergency Action Plan for each venue with the school Athletic Director, coaches, artists, and local EMS. Present lectures, sports medicine programs, and seminars as required. Mentor and manage on‑site education for students and other healthcare professionals at outreach events. Ensure all athletic training sites are equipped with appropriate supplies and recommend new equipment acquisitions. Develop a physician referral network across family practice, orthopedics, physical therapy, and other specialties. Foster patient entry into the healthcare system and maintain accurate referral documentation. Maintain training on concussion education, management, and acute cervical spine care. Adhere to the department’s dress code while providing on‑site services. Perform other related clinical duties as required by state board regulations. Minimum Job Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in athletic training from a CAATE‑accredited program. Certification: Current BOC Certified Athletic Trainer; eligible for a state license within 30 days of hire. Certification: Completed American Heart Association BLS (CPR and AED) within 30 days of hire. Experience: Preferred BOC certified experience; ability to work independently. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Excellent leadership, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective communication with staff, visitors, coaches, physicians, and the broader healthcare team. Maintain confidentiality (FERPA/HIPAA) with patients and staff. Understand and communicate medical terminology to patients, parents, and coaches. Collaborate within the Sports Medicine Team based on departmental needs. Initiate conflict resolution and foster effective peer relationships. Maintain required competencies for the position. Work well with all ages, races, classes, and genders. Identify social‑work resources for uninsured or underinsured athletes. Excellent oral and written communication skills across various media. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Hours may vary based on departmental needs. Night and/or weekend work is required. Provide services at on‑site collegiate athletic training facilities. Accept assignments based on departmental and organizational needs. Manage a stressful environment with frequent interruptions. Work in noisy, hectic, and stressful athletic field settings. Maintain situational awareness as needed. Possible exposure to infections, contagious diseases, and patient elements. Occasional emergency and crisis situations.
