Quality Technician II – Aerospace CNC Manufacturing

Position Summary

The Quality Technician II independently performs inspection activities, supports root cause investigations, and assists manufacturing teams in maintaining compliance with aerospace quality standards. This role requires solid knowledge of machining processes, GD&T, and aerospace documentation requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform complex in-process, final, and receiving inspections on CNC machined components.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Conduct First Article Inspections per AS9102 requirements.
• Review routers, work orders, and manufacturing documentation for accuracy.
• Use advanced inspection equipment including:
  • Optical comparator
  • Surface plate equipment
  • Bore gauges
  • CMM (basic operation preferred)
• Investigate nonconforming material and support MRB activities.
• Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Verify special process certifications and outside processing documentation.
• Support internal audits and customer audits.
• Train and mentor Quality Technician I employees.
• Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and supervisors to resolve quality issues.
• Participate in continuous improvement and scrap reduction initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with customer, FAA, and aerospace regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree or technical certification preferred.
• 3–5 years of quality inspection experience in aerospace or precision machining.
• Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills.
• Experience with ERP systems and electronic quality records.
• Proficiency with standard inspection equipment.
• Working knowledge of AS9100 and AS9102 requirements.

Preferred Knowledge

• CMM operation and reporting.
• Root cause analysis tools.
• Lean manufacturing principles.
• Aerospace customer requirements.

Emphasis on the following:

• Read and interpret aerospace blueprints, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
• Zone and balloon engineering drawings for inspection planning.
• Create inspection forms, quality documentation packages and select appropriate gaging and inspection methods for dimensional verification.
