Location: Nashville, TN Onsite Pay: $20.00/hour Assignment Length: 6+ months Schedule: MondayThursday: 10:00 AM6:00 PM Friday: 5:30 AM2:30 PM

Position Overview

We are seeking a dependable School Cook to prepare and serve meals in accordance with established recipes, menus, dietary guidelines, and food safety standards. This position works closely with the Kitchen Manager and other food service staff to ensure meals are prepared safely, accurately, and on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals and snacks according to established recipes, menus, portion requirements, and dietary guidelines.
• Prepare large quantities of food while maintaining quality, consistency, and appropriate portion sizes.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, hygiene, and proper food-handling procedures.
• Maintain clean and sanitary kitchen equipment, countertops, refrigerators, stoves, food preparation areas, and storage spaces.
• Monitor and document food and equipment temperatures as required.
• Assist with receiving, organizing, storing, and tracking food and kitchen supplies.
• Notify management when inventory or supplies are running low.
• Follow established procedures for food storage, food usage, and waste management.
• Work closely with cooks, dietary staff, and food service management to ensure timely meal service.
• Follow dietary requirements and accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions.
• Maintain accurate records related to food preparation, inventory, temperatures, and meal service.
• Assist with dishwashing and general kitchen cleanup.
• Serve meals and provide courteous service to students and staff.
• Perform additional food service and kitchen duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous food preparation or cooking experience preferred.
• Experience in a school, childcare, cafeteria, healthcare, institutional kitchen, or similar food service environment is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and proper food handling.
• Ability to follow recipes, menus, portion guidelines, and dietary requirements.
• Familiarity with child nutrition, food allergies, and dietary restrictions preferred.
• Familiarity with USDA meal requirements for children is a plus.
• Basic math skills, including measurements, fractions, percentages, and ratios.
• Strong communication, teamwork, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate food service and inventory records.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand for extended periods while preparing and serving food.
• Ability to lift and move food, kitchen supplies, and equipment as needed.
• Ability to perform routine cleaning and sanitation duties.

Additional Requirements

• Must maintain proper hygiene and sanitation practices at all times.
• Must complete First Aid and Infant CPR training as required.
• Must successfully complete required background checks and fingerprinting.
• Must comply with applicable workplace and facility policies.
