Description Child Action is a private, non-profit corporation created in 1976 to promote the education and social welfare of children and families and to advocate on their behalf. Our programs include resource and referral services for families seeking child care, child care subsidies for qualifying families, recruitment and professional development of the child care workforce, and family education and support. We are seeking individuals who are highly organized, have the ability to multi-task, provide excellent customer service, have good problem-solving skills, and have the ability to understand the challenges facing families from a variety of ethnic and economic communities. Please note that completing the job application is a mandatory requirement for this position. Position Purpose & Scope: Under the direct supervision of the Director of Fund and Business Development, the Fund and Business Development Manager supports the development of funding and partnership materials that strengthen and expand existing government-funded programs through diversified funding strategies. This position works collaboratively with internal departments and external partners to support funding alignment, partnership development, and program sustainability efforts. The Fund and Business Development Manager contributes to the development of business development materials, research briefs, white papers, and partnership strategies that leverage resources across foundations, corporations, and public funding streams. This position supports relationship development and cross-sector partnerships that align funding with program priorities and community needs, helping to maximize impact and sustainability. The incumbent compiles and analyzes data related to partnerships, funding alignment, and program outcomes to support reporting, continuous improvement, and effective, scalable practices.
Typical Duties:
Strategic Research & Business Development
• Build and strengthen relationships with corporate partners, foundations, government agencies, and community organizations, with a primary focus on the Sacramento region and alignment with program and organizational priorities.
• Research and identify high-impact funding opportunities, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships aligned with Child Action's mission, strategic priorities, and program needs.
• Conduct market and Landscape research to inform funding alignment, partnership development, and business opportunities that support program sustainability and growth.
• Support the development and coordination of major funding proposals, sponsorship opportunities, and strategic investment communications, ensuring alignment with Director -led strategy and program priorities.
• Maintain accurate records in the donor and CRM database to track outreach, commitments, and follow-up activities.
• Compile and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to support internal reporting,grant reporting,and funder updates, includingtracking partnership impact and outcomes.
• Represent Child Action at community meetings, partner conveni ngs, and business engagement events to support relationship development, organizational visibility, and alignment of funding opportunities with program priorities. Fundraising, Sponsorship & Donor Engagement
• Support the implementation of targetedfundraisingcampaigns, corporate sponsorship efforts, and donor engagement strategies in alignment with organizational priorities and Director -led strategy.
• Contribute to the development of corporate sponsorships and partnership opportunities that strengthen and expand programs and increase financial support aligned with program and organizational priorities.
• Support the identification and engagement of individual donors and partners as part of coordinated efforts to strengthen a diversified funding pipeline.
• Support the cultivation and stewardship of donor and partner relationships, including ongoing engagement, follow-up, and relationship tracking to maintain alignment with organizational priorities.
• Assist in coordinating engagement with prospective donors and partners, supporting movement through established processes from initial engagement to sustained partnership.
• Draft persuasive narratives and support the development of grant proposals, sponsorship requests, and investment materials, ensuring alignment with program data, outcomes, and Director-led strategy.
• Collaborate with the communications team to develop materials including sponsorship packets, donor impact reports, campaign updates, and marketing collateral that reflect program impact and community outcomes.
• Conduct outreach and relationship-building with corporations, foundations, and public sector partners to support partnership development and alignment of funding opportunities with program priorities.
• Support the planning and coordination of donor engagement activities, briefings, and events that highlight program outcomes, partnership impact, and community needs. Program Management & Coordination
• Coordinate and manage cross-departmental projects related to partnerships, funding alignment, and strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with program and organizational priorities.
• Track timelines, deliverables, and communications across internal teams and external partners to support effective coordination and execution of projects.
• Coordinate internal and external stakeholder meetings, including agenda preparation, meeting notes, and follow-up tracking to ensure continuity and alignment across initiatives.
• Help develop and maintain systems such as Salesforce, SharePoint, Teams, and project management tools (e.g., ClickUp) to streamline communication, monitor progress, and document outreach, partnership activity, and funding-related coordination. Performance & Outcomes
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of a strong funding pipeline aligned with organizational priorities and program needs.
• Contribute to increased investment across multiple funding streams through corporate sponsorships, grants, and partnerships, in alignment with program and organizational goals.
• Support initiatives that advance flexible and sustainable funding opportunities to strengthen and expand existing programs. • Strengthen partnerships and engagement with key stakeholders across business, philanthropic, and public sectors to support program impact and long-term sustainability. Education & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, nonprofit management, public
administration, marketing, social sciences, or a field that develops skills related to typical duties; and
• Five (5) years of experience in fundraising, business development, public affairs, strategic
communication, grant writing, program development, or related field
• Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex information into compelling narratives.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated research and analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize information into clear summaries, reports, and presentations. Qualifications, Knowledge, and Abilities
• Ability to demonstrate strong project management, communications, and research skills.
• Ability to plan and organize work to meet changing priorities and strict deadlines while maintaining confidentiality .
• Ability to compile and analyze data to create complete and accurate reports and recommendations.
• Ability to demonstrate exceptional organizational and planning skills.
• Ability to comply with agency safety and ergonomics policies and practices. Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with the Sacramento region and its business, philanthropic, and government landscape is preferred, along with the ability to build and leverage relationships both locally and beyond to support the organization's funding and partnership goals.
• Experience using Salesforce, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and/or Constant Contact.
• Knowledge of early childhood care, workforce development, or nonprofit strategy Physical Factors:
• Works in an office setting. Work is primarily sedentary; but may also work outdoors at field sites on an incidental basis and requires light physical effort; may require greater physical effort on an incidental basis
• Possess visual capability and digital dexterity to operate a computer and other standard office equipment
• Make fine visual distinctions upon proofreading written documents and viewing information on a computer screen
• May be subject to various job demands such as high volume of work and tight deadlines
• This position may require travel. Staff applying for or holding positions will be required to successfully meet Child Action's motor vehicle requirements. FLSA Status: Exempt Supervisory: None Pay Grade Range: $90,000 - $110,000 per annual Closing Date: Until filled Hours: Must be able to work full-time, 40.0 hours per week (8.0 hours a day), Monday through Friday.
