About the Role Job Title: ECMO Specialist Location: Cincinnati, OH (On-Site; Must be local and within driving distance) Compensation and Benefits: Competitive compensation is offered, with base salary ranging from $92,000 to $106,500 per year. Integration Health offers 100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance for full-time employees. IH covers 70% of the health, vision, and dental insurance costs for eligible dependents; 30% of the premium costs are deducted from the employee’s payroll. Full-time employees are covered under term life, accidental death and dismemberment, and short- and long-term disability plans. IH pays premiums on behalf of the employee. Job Summary: The ECMO Specialist provides bedside critical care assistance to patients receiving ECMO therapy within customer facilities. The ECMO Specialist has a functional understanding of extracorporeal life support (ECLS) and mechanical circulatory support (MCS) and will participate in required Integration Health training for continuing education and experience. This position reports to the clinical operations manager; at some accounts an IH designee/coordinator may serve as an initial contact in the chain of command. Job Responsibilities: Skills and Knowledge: Excellent communication with hospital staff, physicians, patients, family members, and community professionals. Completion of ECLS education modules with a working understanding of extracorporeal technology and treatments. Clinical Duties: Provide continuous monitoring of the ECLS patient and circuit (up to a 1:3 Specialist:Patient ratio). Monitor and adjust blood flow and sweep gas flow per guidelines or orders. Recommend changes to patient management based on data/status. Review laboratory and radiographic reports and report irregularities to the ECLS physician/advanced practice provider. Collaborate with the ECLS team to coordinate tests and evaluations. Monitor ACT and coagulation tests and adjust anticoagulation per guidelines or orders. Monitor intake and output and make recommendations. Verify circuits and bedside carts are stocked and in the correct location. Coordinate interventions with bedside staff for best-practice care per guidelines. May assist with initiation of support and decannulation as directed with the surgical team. Documentation: Log hours, location, expenses, and schedule travel arrangements using ADP and Concur; document in patient charts per hospital guidelines. Communication: Communicate professionally with Scheduling & Logistics, Credentialing, Leadership, and other administrative teams; promote IH culture and professional standards; engage in professional dialogue with ECLS physicians without undermining decisions. Training: Complete ECLS education modules and hands-on circuit training; become proficient with Cardiohelp, CentriMag, Spectrum, and Rotaflow systems. Participate in bedside orientation and cross-training for diverse patient demographics and treatment strategies. Demonstrate competency before solo staffing; ongoing competency assessments to tailor education. Competencies: Demonstrate understanding of VA/VV ECMO differences, cannulation strategies, coagulation processes, ventilator interactions, sedation considerations, and emergency responses (e.g., decannulation, alarms, system checks). Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred; Associate degree with 2-3 years of related Critical Care and/or ECLS experience will be considered. Maintain an unencumbered professional license (RN, RRT, CCP) and applicable state licenses for travelers. Preference given to pediatric and adult ECMO experience. Maintain AHA BLS credentials. Physical Requirements: Must be able to communicate effectively and perform in stressful situations. Must be able to stand, walk, see, hear, read, speak, and write for prolonged periods. Must frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
