GRANT WRITER & GRANT OVERSIGHT SPECIALIST – PROJECT-BASED

We are looking for a highly organized, detail-oriented, and experienced grant professional with a minimum of 2–3 years of grant writing experience who can do more than write proposals. The ideal candidate must be able to read, understand, develop, monitor, and oversee grant budgets and ensure grant requirements are being followed throughout the entire grant lifecycle.

This is a project-based opportunity , with compensation paid upon completion of approved grant projects. Additional responsibilities related to grant management and oversight may be assigned based on experience and qualifications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Grant Writer & Grant Oversight Specialist will be responsible for researching funding opportunities, developing competitive applications, supporting budget development, and assisting with the ongoing oversight and management of awarded grants.

Grant Research & Development

• Research federal, state, county, municipal, foundation, corporate, and private grant opportunities
• Identify funding opportunities that align with Bridging Gapss, LLC programs and organizational goals
• Review RFPs, NOFOs, RFAs, foundation guidelines, and grant announcements
• Determine eligibility requirements and assess whether an opportunity is a strong fit
• Maintain a grant opportunity and deadline calendar
• Communicate upcoming opportunities and deadlines to leadership
• Develop letters of intent, concept papers, grant proposals, and full applications

Grant Writing

• Develop strong and compelling grant narratives
• Write statements of need, program descriptions, goals, objectives, outcomes, and sustainability plans
• Develop evaluation and performance measurement sections
• Ensure proposals accurately represent the organization's programs, services, community impact, and capacity
• Proofread and edit proposals for accuracy, professionalism, grammar, and consistency
• Ensure every application follows the funder's instructions and formatting requirements
• Prepare and organize required attachments and supporting documentation
• Complete final application reviews prior to submission

BUDGET & FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The ability to read and understand a grant budget is REQUIRED.

The successful candidate must be comfortable working with grant budgets and understanding how proposed expenses relate to program activities and grant requirements.

Responsibilities may include:

• Review grant budgets and budget narratives
• Understand personnel, fringe benefits, contractual services, supplies, equipment, travel, and other allowable expenses
• Ensure proposed expenses are reasonable, necessary, and aligned with the grant's requirements
• Assist with developing grant budgets and budget narratives
• Review budget-to-actual information
• Monitor spending against approved grant budgets
• Identify potential budget variances or concerns
• Communicate budget concerns to leadership
• Assist with budget revisions when permitted by the funder
• Ensure grant expenditures are connected to approved program activities
• Understand matching funds, in-kind contributions, and other funding requirements when applicable
• Review invoices, payroll-related documentation, and other supporting financial records when necessary for grant compliance
• Help ensure grant funds are being used according to the approved budget and funding guidelines

Candidates should be able to look at a grant budget and understand what the numbers mean, how the funds are supposed to be used, and whether actual spending is consistent with the approved budget.

GRANT MANAGEMENT & OVERSIGHT

This position will also assist with grant oversight after an award is received.

Responsibilities may include:

• Review grant award documents and funding agreements
• Understand grant terms, conditions, deliverables, and reporting requirements
• Create and maintain grant compliance calendars
• Track grant milestones, deadlines, deliverables, and reporting dates
• Monitor program activities against approved grant objectives
• Track required outcomes and performance measures
• Monitor expenditures and grant-funded activities
• Identify missing documentation or compliance concerns
• Follow up with staff regarding required documentation
• Assist leadership with monthly, quarterly, and annual grant reporting
• Review supporting documentation before reports are submitted
• Assist with preparing financial and programmatic reports
• Monitor whether grant deliverables are being completed on time
• Maintain organized grant files
• Ensure grant documentation is readily available for monitoring, audits, or funder requests
• Assist with grant renewals and continuation applications
• Communicate potential compliance issues to leadership promptly

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates MUST have:

• Minimum 2–3 years of professional grant writing experience
• Demonstrated experience writing and submitting grant applications
• Experience researching funding opportunities
• Strong understanding of grant requirements and compliance
• Ability to read and understand grant budgets
• Ability to understand budget narratives and allowable costs
• Experience with grant management or grant administration
• Strong professional writing and editing skills
• Excellent attention to detail
• Strong organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Ability to work independently
• Strong communication and follow-up skills
• Ability to maintain confidential organizational and financial information
• Reliable computer and internet access

Experience with federal, state, county, municipal, foundation, and corporate grants is highly preferred.

Experience with grant budgets, financial reporting, compliance monitoring, audits, grant closeouts, and post-award management is a strong advantage.

THIS IS NOT JUST A GRANT WRITING POSITION

We are looking for someone who understands the full grant lifecycle :

Research → Application → Budget → Award → Implementation → Monitoring → Reporting → Compliance → Closeout/Renewal

The ideal candidate should be able to write the grant, understand the budget, monitor the award, track deliverables, identify compliance issues, and help ensure the organization remains accountable to the funder.

COMPENSATION

This is a project-based independent contractor opportunity.

Grant writers will be paid per completed grant project , with compensation discussed and agreed upon before the assignment begins.

Additional compensation/project assignments may be considered for candidates responsible for ongoing grant oversight, reporting, compliance, or grant management.
