ADA/504 Coordinator

By facilitating services and care for students with disabilities, this position serves the University's commitment to high standards of academic excellence by working to provide accommodations for students with disabilities, while maintaining the integrity and standards of academic programs in accordance with the Rehabilitation Act Section 504, Section 508, Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADAA), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2), and Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA). The position is responsible for coordinating University compliance with policies and procedures relating to persons with disabilities, tracking University progress relating to its policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws relating to persons with disabilities, and providing consultative services to employing units and offices. The support provided is essential to the work of the Office of Student Accessibility by serving as the designated, publicly-identified coordinator as required by federal regulations, coordinating the university's compliance with the ADA and Section 504, supporting the Provost’s Office in its response to ADA/504 grievances, coordinating responses to accessibility requests and ADA and Section 504 concerns across departments, managing monthly and annual data and reporting for the office, as well as supporting other areas of the office during peak seasons, especially the processing of payments for note takers alongside the Note Taker Coordinator and the processing Semester Requests (notifications to faculty of accommodations) alongside the Exam Systems Manager. The work of this position contributes to the University's efforts to build a community devoted to treating every person with respect and compassion with notable inclusion for disabled students. Duties Applying legal requirements, University policies and procedures, and a holistic understanding of University departments and staff to elicit, coordinate, and oversee responses to community members' concerns and requests that fall under the ADA and/or Section 504 across University departments including but not limited to the Office of Student Accessibility, Center for Digital Learning, Pepperdine Housing and Residence Life, Facilities, and Pepperdine Counseling Center, and Admissions at all six schools. Assess situations to ensure there are systems and resources in place in the relevant departments to respond to requests and concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. Proactively and creatively seek out and propose solutions for challenges in providing disability accommodations and work with University stakeholders to ensure that services, activities, and facilities are accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities. Research, develop where necessary, and deploy training for relevant University staff to understand their responsibilities under the ADA and Section 504. Work with University stakeholders to assist in ensuring the University's nondiscrimination statements (including notice of the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator), access information, grievance procedures, and other disability-related policies are legally compliant, up-to-date, posted, and distributed as required. Retrieve data and create reports on accommodations decisions and use for monthly and annual reporting for all six schools. Support regular assessment efforts for the office and advise in the development of updates and recommendations for University stakeholders. Train staff and student workers on data acquisition and best practices in the maintenance of files, including the creation of controlled vocabularies and standardization of processes to ensure best practices. Create surveys or other means of collecting year-round feedback from students and faculty/staff. Ensure all OSA produced documentation meets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1 Level AA and as much as possible Universal Design for Learning Principles. In coordination with IT and TechLearn, track digital accessibility certification on campus. Support the Provost's Office in implementing the University's Section 504 complaint process and grievance policy, including ensuring prompt and impartial investigations occur and notifying complainants of the outcomes. Coordinate responses to OCR investigations with General Counsel. Create where necessary or update manuals and training documents for all areas of the office. Aggregate key dates on the academic calendar across all six schools so as to ensure that standardized communications regarding deadlines are sent out in a consistent and timely manner. Maintain an orderly Shared Google Drive. Audit and clean up data in Spreadsheets and in Accommodate. Support the Exam Systems Manager in the processing of Semester Requests (notifications to faculty of accommodations) and in the proctoring of exams, especially during Seaver Finals. Support the Technology Accessibility & Note Taker Coordinator process in the processing of payments for Note Takers. Serve as the FERPA compliance officer for OSA. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications Required: Bachelor's Degree and four years of experience in a higher education setting. Knowledge of requirements under state and federal disability discrimination laws, regulations, especially ADA and Section 504, Human Resources. Enjoyment of undergraduate and graduate student populations Google Suite, especially Sheets. Preferred: Master's Degree and knowledge of requirements under state and federal disability discrimination laws, regulations, especially ADA and Section 504, Human Resources. Experience within a university setting; understanding of disabilities, accommodations; knowledge of disability theory and law, namely Rehabilitation Act Section 504, Section 508, Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (ADAA), Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.2), and Family Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) and Universal Design for Learning Principles. Accommodate/Symplicity, PeopleSoft; ADP, Etrieve; experience with and capacity to learn new systems and technology. Familiarity with Pepperdine financial systems, generating requisitions and purchase orders. This is a Restricted, Exempt, 40 hour per week position. Expected Pay Range: $70,304 - $75,000 per year The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level.
