Job Summary:

The Assistant Sales Manager supports the day-to-day sales operations of the automotive dealership and assists the Sales Manager in achieving vehicle sales, revenue, customer service, and operational goals. This position works directly with customers and sales personnel throughout the sales process, helps maintain an organized and professional sales environment, and provides leadership when the Sales Manager is unavailable.

The ideal candidate is customer-focused, sales-driven, organized, and capable of balancing individual sales responsibilities with team leadership and dealership operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Sales Manager with daily sales operations and achievement of dealership sales goals.
• Greet customers, identify vehicle needs, and guide customers through the vehicle selection and purchasing process.
• Build strong customer relationships and provide a professional, transparent, and positive buying experience.
• Assist sales representatives with customer negotiations, vehicle presentations, follow-up, and closing transactions.
• Monitor sales activity, customer leads, appointments, follow-ups, and pending transactions.
• Ensure customer information, sales activity, and lead status are accurately maintained in the dealership's CRM or sales management system.
• Assist with assigning and distributing incoming sales leads.
• Follow up with prospective and previous customers by telephone, email, text, or other approved communication methods.
• Support vehicle pricing, promotions, merchandising, and inventory sales strategies.
• Maintain familiarity with available vehicle inventory, vehicle features, pricing, financing options, warranties, and dealership programs.
• Coordinate with management, finance, service, detailing, and other personnel to ensure vehicles are ready for customer delivery.
• Assist with vehicle trade-in processes and collection of required transaction documentation.
• Review sales paperwork for accuracy and completeness before submission to management or finance personnel.
• Help ensure compliance with dealership policies and applicable sales, privacy, financing, and consumer-protection requirements.
• Assist with training, coaching, and onboarding sales personnel.
• Monitor employee professionalism, customer service standards, attendance, and sales activity.
• Assist in resolving customer questions or concerns and escalate significant matters to management when appropriate.
• Participate in sales meetings, promotional campaigns, dealership events, and other business-development activities.
• Maintain a clean, professional, organized, and customer-ready sales environment.
• Assist the Sales Manager with reports, performance tracking, inventory reviews, and other operational responsibilities.
• Assume designated Sales Manager responsibilities when the Sales Manager is unavailable.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous sales experience, preferably in automotive, retail, financial services, or another customer-facing sales environment.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers and coworkers.
• Ability to negotiate, overcome objections, and close sales.
• Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn dealership CRM, inventory, and sales systems.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on dealership needs.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of customer, financial, and company information.

Preferred:

• Two or more years of automotive sales experience.
• Previous supervisory, team lead, or assistant management experience.
• Experience working in a used vehicle dealership.
• Experience with automotive CRM, dealer management, inventory, or lead-management systems.
• Knowledge of vehicle financing, warranties, trade-ins, and automotive sales documentation.
• Demonstrated record of meeting or exceeding sales goals.
• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, Management, or a related field.
