Assistant Aquatics Manager

Job Summary UCSF Aquatics makes life better by inspiring fitness and providing opportunities to learn to swim through safe, fun, and diverse programming. UCSF boasts three swimming pools across two campuses, including an outdoor rooftop pool voted best outdoor pool in SF and two indoor pools. We are looking for a passionate aquatics professional to join our team as Assistant Aquatics Manager. The position requires year‑round availability. Responsibilities Plan, organize, and implement recreational and aquatics programs, including learn‑to‑swim, American Red Cross certification courses, masters practices, and water exercise. Supervise a team of over 50 lifeguards and other aquatics staff, including recruitment, hiring, training, performance management, and professional development. Conduct safety inspections, manage facility operations, chemical balances, and maintenance of pools and equipment. Oversee risk‑management and safety policies and procedures per industry standards. Coordinate class reservation systems, manage staff scheduling, and ensure compliance with UCSF policies. Assist with financial management, including quarterly reporting, budget monitoring, and expense reconciliation. Support marketing and public relations efforts, maintain the aquatics website catalog, and coordinate promotional activities. Provide lifeguard instruction and emergency rescue training as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience. Minimum two years of management experience. Knowledge of aquatics program activity and industry best practices. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, ability to work across the organization. Strong problem‑solving, judgment, and decision‑making skills. Client‑service mindful focus and entrepreneurial spirit. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency with basic computer applications relevant to job duties. Knowledge of campus policies, policies, and ability to apply UCSF HR policies. American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certification. American Red Cross CPR/AED for Lifeguards certification. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification (active or obtained within one year of hire). American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) certification (active or obtained within one year of hire). American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) Instructor certification (active or obtained within one year of hire). Preferred Qualifications American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification (active or obtained within one year of hire). Certified Pool Operator certification (may be obtained within 12 months).
