Assistant Aquatics Manager

Job Summary Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience. UCSF Aquatics seeks an Assistant Aquatics Manager to lead a team of over 50 lifeguards and support staff across three UCSF pools. The role involves planning and executing recreational programs, supervising staff, managing inventory and budget, ensuring safety compliance, maintaining marketing materials, and providing lifeguard instruction. Key Responsibilities Plan, organize, and implement recreational programs and water exercise classes. Oversee pool facility operations, including maintenance, chemical balances, and safety inspections. Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and retain aquatics staff such as lifeguards, swim instructors, and group fitness instructors. Develop and enforce risk management and safety policies that meet industry standards. Manage staff certifications, training records, and compliance with UCSF and industry requirements. Prepare and analyze quarterly program reports, identify trends, and recommend actions. Coordinate budgeting, procurement of supplies and chemicals, and financial reporting with the Aquatics Manager. Maintain the Aquatics catalog, website section, and promotional materials; collaborate with communications for public relations efforts. Provide lifeguard instruction, including shift coverage and ongoing training. Participate in department meetings, training sessions, and projects to enhance program quality. Required Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of management experience in an aquatic or fitness environment. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Knowledge of program activity, industry best practices, and UCSF policies. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities in English. Proficient use of basic computer applications relevant to job duties. Ability to work with youth, fitness, and outdoor programs. Proven ability to exercise independent judgment and solve problems creatively. American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certification. American Red Cross CPR/AED for Lifeguards certification. American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor certification (active or obtained within 1 year of hire). American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) certification (active or obtained within 1 year of hire). American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) Instructor certification (active or obtained within 1 year of hire). Preferred Qualifications American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification (active or obtained within 1 year of hire). Certified Pool Operator certification (may be obtained within 12 months).
