Facilities Director – School Buildings Facilities Department Full‑time position. Anticipated starting salary $102,455 to $115,000. Responsibilities Plan, organize, staff, direct, coordinate and budget activities of the Facilities Department for school buildings. Provide for repair, maintenance, renovation and replacement of school buildings and mechanical equipment. Prepare specifications for contract work; oversee and inspect construction, repairs and renovations; develop and implement a preventative maintenance program. Develop an energy management system and implementation plan in collaboration with the Energy Manager. Oversee development of School Department objectives, plans and goals; recommend programs/services to support strategic initiatives. Develop, recommend, and implement major Facilities Department plans and policies; assess effectiveness and recommend adjustments. Work with School Building Committees and other departments on construction and renovation projects; assist in selection of architects, engineers and contractors; monitor progress, adherence to plans, specifications, timelines and budgets. Prepare specification plans for maintenance functions; coordinate and supervise private contractors. Establish contracts for maintenance services with procurement to achieve economies of scale. Conduct periodic visits and inspections of all school buildings; keep records. Assist in annual preparation of a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Implement a computer tracking system to prioritize maintenance projects; develop and present budget requests; authorize and expend funds; monitor budgets. Meet regularly with School Department staff to coordinate services and solicit input and feedback. Provide effective customer service and maintain community relations. Collaborate with the Town Facilities Director on Town building projects. Follow safe work practices. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduation with a Bachelor’s Degree in facilities management, engineering, or related field. 7‑10 years of experience in construction and maintenance of commercial and educational buildings, or equivalent combination. Knowledge of building care and maintenance methods, materials, tools, and equipment. Knowledge of price trends, quality of materials, applicable laws, regulations, and codes related to building maintenance and repair. Knowledge of safety precautions common to facility management and repair. Knowledge of standard office equipment and computer software. Ability to multitask, prioritize, analyze data, provide guidance, supervise employees, manage contract workers, build relationships, safeguard confidential information, and exercise sound judgment. Skills in oral and written communication, report preparation, presentation, customer service, problem solving, troubleshooting, strategic thinking, and decision making. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Work performed indoors and outdoors; requires hand‑eye coordination, close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, and using hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment. Occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, bending, exposure to adverse weather and other unpleasant conditions (e.g., dust, noise, vibrations). Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds or more.
