Behavioral Health Technician (JTR) - Partial Hospital Program

Overview Under direct supervision from the Journey-to-Recovery (JTR) Supervisor and/or Clinical Manager (BHP), the Behavioral Health Technician provides assessment, facilitates groups, mentors clients, and offers monitoring and assistance for individuals with chemical dependency problems. Works in a withdrawal management, residential, or outpatient setting to create and support a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment. Provides critical client referral care for medical and/or emergency treatment when necessary, and collaborates closely with the Clinical team to ensure optimal outcomes for clinical care. Responsibilities Interview, screen and evaluate clients according to the established Intake process. Provide clinical support by mentoring, facilitating groups, offering individual therapeutic contact, case management as needed, teaching recovery skills, facilitating recovery team meetings, and working with families. Work with an integrated care team to ensure clients receive comprehensive services – including psychiatry, counseling, case management, and primary care; often transport clients to appointments and connect them to care outside and inside the clinical programs. Document daily clinical information into client charts to ensure accurate reports of shift activities and client progress. Serve as liaison between programs and treatment centers, including referral agencies. Transport clients to Alcohol Education, Behavioral Health appointments, and AA/NA meetings. Provide basic one-on-one counseling and support to clients during their stay or over the telephone. Attend ongoing training and participate in prevention and intervention community awareness events; maintain clinical skills through bi‑monthly supervision. Assist in training new and current staff (full‑time and temporary) on program procedures. Perform all required administrative tasks associated with the Behavioral Health Tech role—including answering phones, providing excellent customer service, coordinating care, and handling documentation needs. When directed, complete assessments, intakes, screenings, and case management services. Work shift schedules (am, pm, night) and be willing to work weekends and nights. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Knowledge Culture, customs, traditions, and history of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. First‑Aid methods and CPR techniques. Recovery Principles, Motivational Interviewing and Medication Assisted Treatment. HIV/AIDS, chronic medical illnesses, and their basic symptoms. Effects of alcohol consumption and long‑term effects of alcohol and substance dependency. JTR programs, policies and procedures, especially the data collection system used by the program. Basic computer software, including MS Office. Skills Assess and evaluate emergency situations using emergency procedures. Follow complex verbal and written instructions, policies and procedures. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, SRPMIC staff and the public. Operate standard office equipment, including photocopiers, FAX machines, printers, scanners and copiers. Abilities Maintain accurate and timely program records, according to prescribed standards. Drive various SRPMIC vehicles, including a fifteen‑person van. Operate a washer and dryer. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Education & Experience High school diploma or GED + 2‑4 years full‑time behavioral health work experience. Associate’s degree or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) + 2 years full‑time behavioral health work experience. Licensed Substance Abuse Technician (LSAT). Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health‑related field. Any equivalent combination of experience may be considered. Other Requirements Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member who closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications may be considered under SRPMIC Policy 2‑19. May be required to work beyond normal hours, including nights, weekends and holidays. Must have current certification in First Aid and CPR prior to working with patients. New hires must present valid BLS certification (Healthcare Provider BLS for clinicians) before the first day of patient care.
