Occupational Therapist

Provide school-based occupational therapy services to eligible students in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Occupational Therapist supports students in accessing and participating in their educational program by addressing fine motor, sensory, self-care, and classroom participation needs aligned to IEP goals.

Qualifications

Education / Certification

• Master's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
• Current Texas OT license issued by the Texas Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners
• NBCOT certification (current)
• Eligible for employment in a Texas public school district (background clearance)

Preferred

• School-based OT experience
• Knowledge of IDEA, ARD/IEP process, and special education compliance
• Experience with assistive technology and sensory integration strategies

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Understanding of educationally relevant therapy vs. medical therapy
• Strong collaboration skills with teachers, administrators, parents, and special education teams
• Ability to conduct evaluations and write compliant OT reports
• Classroom-based intervention and consultation skills
• Effective oral and written communication
• Strong documentation and time management skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties

• Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and re-evaluations in compliance with IDEA and district procedures
• Participate in ARD/IEP meetings to develop measurable goals and service plans
• Prepare and maintain required documentation, progress reports, and compliance timelines
• Provide direct therapy services to students as outlined in IEPs
• Consult with teachers and staff to implement classroom strategies and accommodations
• Train staff and parents on appropriate use of adaptive equipment and interventions
• Collaborate with LSSPs, Speech Pathologists, Diagnosticians, and Teachers
• Maintain service logs and documentation for PEIMS/TEA audit compliance
• Ensure confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policy

Work Environment / Physical Demands

• Work may involve travel between campuses
• Ability to lift, push, or pull therapy equipment and assistive devices
• Frequent standing, walking, and positioning of students
