About the Role
The Company is seeking an Assistant General Counsel for Litigation and Special Education to join its dynamic and thoughtful legal team. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising agency staff on all legal aspects of litigation defense, with a primary focus on defending the agency in various legal matters. This role requires exceptional writing, research, and analytical skills, as well as the ability to work well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Duties include reviewing and preparing legal documents, drafting and reviewing pleadings, gathering records for court proceedings, providing legal advice, and handling special assignments and projects. The Assistant General Counsel will also be expected to liaise and collaborate with the Law Department and other city agencies on legal matters. Applicants for the Assistant General Counsel position must be admitted to the New York State Bar and have a minimum of four years of full-time legal experience, with at least eighteen months in a supervisory role. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in litigation, be adept at multitasking, and have a proven track record of working effectively with both attorneys and non-attorneys. The role is suited to a candidate who is a member of the New York State Bar in good standing and is committed to the values of inclusivity and diversity in the workplace.
