Position Overview

DOT Construction, Inc. is seeking an experienced, hands-on Finish Carpenter for commercial and residential construction projects. This position is for a craftsman who takes pride in high-quality finished work, works efficiently with minimal supervision, and understands that details, fit, alignment, and final appearance are critical to successful project turnover.

The Finish Carpenter will perform layout, fabrication, installation, adjustment, and punch work for interior finish carpentry, doors and hardware, cabinets, millwork, trim, specialty finishes, and related construction components. The ideal candidate can read drawings and details, verify field dimensions, identify conflicts before installation, and complete work with minimal rework or punch-list items.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate based on experience, demonstrated skill level, and workmanship. Overtime availability will depend on project requirements.

What You Will Do on the Jobsite

Finish Carpentry & Installation

• Interior Trim: Install baseboard, casing, crown molding, chair rail, wood trim, architectural moldings, transitions, and miscellaneous finish carpentry.
• Doors & Hardware: Install and adjust wood doors, frames, jambs, casing, locks, closers, panic hardware, thresholds, and related door components.
• Cabinetry & Millwork: Install commercial and residential cabinets, countertops, shelving, casework, reception counters, architectural millwork, and specialty wood components.
• Wall & Ceiling Features: Install wood panels, decorative panels, feature walls, wood ceilings, blocking, backing, and architectural finish components.
• Commercial Finish Work: Install millwork, plastic laminate, solid-surface components, wall protection, restroom accessories, and miscellaneous finish items when assigned.
• Residential Finish Work: Complete interior trim-out including doors, cabinets, shelving, closets, base, casing, crown molding, and custom finish carpentry.
• Custom Fabrication: Measure, cut, fabricate, modify, scribe, fit, and install materials to match actual field conditions.
• Punch & Closeout: Complete final adjustments, touch-ups, corrections, and punch-list items necessary for owner or client turnover.

Quality & Craftsmanship

• Build It Right the First Time: Complete installations accurately and professionally to minimize rework, callbacks, and punch-list deficiencies.
• Read the Plans: Read and interpret architectural drawings, elevations, details, finish schedules, shop drawings, and manufacturer installation requirements.
• Field Verification: Verify dimensions, elevations, wall conditions, openings, backing, and existing conditions before cutting, fabricating, or installing materials.
• Attention to Detail: Maintain clean joints, consistent reveals, proper spacing, alignment, elevations, transitions, and a professional finished appearance.
• Protect Finished Work: Protect completed finishes and surrounding surfaces from damage during ongoing construction activities.
• Professional Finish: Deliver work that is square, level, plumb, securely fastened, properly fitted, clean, and ready for final inspection.

Planning & Productivity

• Plan the Work: Review assigned work before beginning and determine the required tools, materials, hardware, fasteners, access equipment, and installation sequence.
• Control Material Waste: Plan cuts and material usage to reduce waste while maintaining quality and required finish standards.
• Stay Productive: Maintain expected production rates without sacrificing craftsmanship or finished appearance.
• Communicate Material Needs: Coordinate material needs and shortages with the Foreman, Superintendent, or Project Manager before production is affected.
• Identify Conflicts Early: Notify supervision immediately when drawings, dimensions, existing conditions, or other trades conflict with the planned installation.

Jobsite Coordination & Safety

• Coordinate with Other Trades: Work professionally with drywall, painting, flooring, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, glazing, and other trades to maintain the project schedule.
• Respect Completed Work: Work around completed finishes without causing unnecessary damage, contamination, or rework.
• Control Extra Work: Do not perform out-of-scope work or change-order work without direction and authorization from project supervision.
• Maintain a Clean Work Area: Keep tools, materials, cords, debris, and work areas organized throughout the shift and clean the area at the end of each workday.
• Work Safely: Use tools, ladders, lifts, saws, nailers, and other equipment safely and in accordance with project rules, OSHA requirements, and company procedures.
• Use Required PPE: Wear and maintain all project-required personal protective equipment and immediately report unsafe conditions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Commercial and/or residential finish carpentry experience.
• Strong knowledge of finish carpentry installation methods and quality standards.
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform construction-related math and layout.
• Ability to read architectural plans, elevations, details, schedules, and shop drawings.
• Experience installing doors, trim, cabinets, millwork, shelving, and architectural finishes.
• Ability to make accurate cuts, scribes, miters, field modifications, and final adjustments.
• Knowledge of proper fastening, adhesives, blocking, anchoring, and installation methods.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a construction crew with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail, finished appearance, cleanliness, and protection of completed work.
• Ability to identify damaged, incorrect, or defective material before installation.
• Reliable attendance, dependable transportation, and willingness to work overtime when required.

Tools & Equipment Experience

Candidates should be comfortable working with the tools commonly required for finish carpentry, including:

• Miter saws, table saws, circular saws, and track saws.
• Routers, jigsaws, planers, and sanders.
• Finish nailers, brad nailers, drills, and impact drivers.
• Levels, laser levels, squares, clamps, and precision layout tools.
• Standard hand tools and specialty finish carpentry tools.
