Role Overview The Tokio Marine HCC - Public Risk Group is seeking a self‑motivated Claims Attorney to join our growing Claims Department and handle litigated and non‑litigated claims primarily arising under Auto and General Liability, as well as potentially some Law Enforcement, Public Officials, and Employment Practices liability policies in various jurisdictions. This role is part of our Casualty Claims team and offers an opportunity to enhance your legal career in a fast‑paced insurance company. Key Responsibilities Interpret coverage and collaborate with outside counsel to analyze and resolve claims within designated limits of authority. Investigate, analyze liability and damages exposure, and draft coverage position letters. Develop strategies for resolution of litigated and non‑litigated claims. Determine probable loss exposure and establish reserves. Maintain claim files and documents in accordance with company policy and procedure. Report to a senior member of the Casualty and Litigation management team and work claims with limited supervision. Performance Objectives Gain understanding of insurance policies and procedures within the first 30 days, including Auto and General Liability, Law Enforcement, Public Officials, and Employment Practices policies; and governmental immunities for each state where we write business. Navigate claims systems and manage claims of limited complexity and exposure. Develop confidence in communicating coverage positions, managing litigated and non‑litigated claims, and generating action plans for reserving and resolution opportunities within 60‑90 days. Obtain all necessary adjusting licenses within approximately 180 days of employment. Work independently on drafting coverage letters and settling claims within authority six months after hire. What You Bring Educational Requirements: Juris Doctor (J.D.) Experience: Minimum five years of relevant legal experience; at least two years of claims handling preferred. License: Active Adjuster’s License (or commitment to obtain within six months). Technical Skills: Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
