District Support Pharmacist

Job Purpose and Summary At CVS Health, our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) support pharmacy teams across the district, covering scheduling gaps and ensuring safe, patient‑focused operations. DSPs act as temporary Pharmacy Managers during bench shifts, oversee workflow, provide counseling and immunizations, manage inventory, and support clinical services. Responsibilities Living our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices. Traveling the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator. Overseeing the pharmacy and serving as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts. Supporting safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacologic workflow procedures and directing the pharmacy team. Assuming the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty. Contributing to positive patient experiences by demonstrating empathy, coaching the team, and resolving insurance or medication issues. Proactively offering and delivering immunizations while training pharmacy technicians to immunize. Managing pharmacy inventory, guiding the team on inventory best practices, with a focus on protecting cold‑chain products. Remaining flexible for scheduling and business needs while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic. Maintaining relevant clinical and technical skills through required training, CMEs, and continual learning. Supporting access to care and improving patient outcomes through pharmacist‑delivered clinical care such as testing and prescribing services where permissible. Ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, professional standards, and CVS Health policies to support patient safety. Essential Functions Travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing as business needs require. Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends. Complete required training within the designated timeframe. Concentrate on tasks over time and pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs. Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety. Actively seek ways to help people in a friendly manner and respond appropriately to patient reactions. Use effective verbal and written communication; employ active listening and appropriate questioning. Apply mathematical reasoning to determine dosage, supply, and dispensing quantities. Select optimal solutions during challenging interactions to resolve problems. Required Qualifications Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located. Active National Provider Identifier (NPI). Not listed on the DEA Excluded Parties list. Preferred Qualifications 1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
