The Warehouse Supervisor oversees a high-volume parts processing operation, ensuring that safety, quality, productivity, and responsiveness targets are consistently met. This role leads and develops a team of hourly employees in a fast-paced, unionized environment, using structured problem-solving and workplace organization processes to improve layouts, efficiency, and overall performance. The Warehouse Supervisor manages daily planning, timekeeping, and communication routines while maintaining strict adherence to shop rules, contractual requirements, and standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise hourly employees in a warehouse and parts processing environment, providing clear direction, coaching, and support throughout each shift.
• Meet departmental business objectives related to safety, quality, productivity, responsiveness, and overall performance.
• Counsel and support employees with their needs and concerns, demonstrating empathy while maintaining a strong focus on performance and results.
• Address performance behaviors by recognizing and reinforcing positive contributions and applying progressive discipline when necessary, including verbal counseling, written documentation, and termination when appropriate.
• Use structured problem-solving methods, including the Quality Network process and A-3 reporting format, to identify opportunities, engage the workforce for ideas, and document corrective actions in line with local guidelines.
• Apply Workplace Organization (WPO) principles to improve warehouse layouts, optimize material flow, and increase operational efficiency.
• Perform daily updates in the Timekeeping System (TKS) to ensure accurate payroll data and proper recording of employee time.
• Conduct daily huddle meetings to communicate business performance, safety topics, and shift priorities, and to encourage two-way discussion with employees.
• Perform and document weekly safety observation tours of the department to identify hazards, reinforce safe behaviors, and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
• Plan daily workload in advance, including staffing, task assignments, and resource allocation, to meet throughput and shipping requirements.
• Support fellow supervisors and colleagues to optimize overall shift performance and maintain consistent operations across all shifts.
• Observe and enforce all applicable national and local contractual requirements and shop rules within the unionized environment.
• Conduct daily audits of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to verify compliance and drive continuous improvement in processes.
• Advance personal leadership and technical skills through participation in the Individual Development Plan (IDP) process.
• Keep senior supervisory and committee leadership informed of pending activities, operational issues, and workforce matters.
• Oversee warehouse operations related to shipping, receiving, and parts distribution, ensuring that unpacked bulk parts are properly staged, packaged, and moved to shipping areas.
• Ensure that operators follow packaging requirements for GM and AC Delco products, including correct bagging, boxing, and labeling of parts.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment, reinforcing workplace organization and safety procedures at all times.
• Monitor and report team performance and goals throughout the shift, adjusting priorities as needed to meet production and shipping deadlines.
• Demonstrate strong people management skills by communicating effectively with a diverse group of employees, balancing empathy with accountability.
• Manage and lead teams within a union environment, preferably with UAW experience, ensuring respectful, compliant, and effective labor relations.
• Maintain performance and composure when faced with operational challenges, using problem-solving skills to resolve issues and keep throughput on track.

Essential Skills:

• Proven supervision and management experience in a warehouse, shipping and receiving, or parts distribution environment.
• Demonstrated supervisory skills, including direct supervision of employees and hands-on leadership on the floor.
• Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire teams while driving performance in a fast-paced, high-volume operation.
• Experience applying progressive discipline, including verbal counseling, written warnings, and termination when required.
• Strong people skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of employees, understand their needs, and balance empathy with performance expectations.
• Ability to multitask and manage constantly changing priorities, including coaching employee behaviors, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and reporting team goals during the shift.
• Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to maintain performance when faced with operational challenges.
• Leadership experience in a union environment, preferably with UAW, including familiarity with contractual requirements and shop rules.
• Knowledge of warehouse management and operations, including shipping, receiving, and parts distribution processes.
• Understanding and application of safety procedures and safe work practices in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
• Experience with timekeeping systems such as Kronos or similar tools for tracking employee hours and payroll data.
• Ability to use structured problem-solving processes such as Quality Network and A-3 reporting to analyze issues and implement improvements.
• Capability to apply Workplace Organization (WPO) concepts to improve layouts and operational efficiency.
• Strong communication skills for conducting daily huddles, delivering feedback, and reporting performance metrics.
• Ability to enforce shop rules and maintain a disciplined, compliant work environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience in automotive manufacturing, automotive industry operations, or parts distribution environments.
• Experience working in or supporting unionized teams, with specific exposure to UAW preferred.
• Familiarity with parts processing centers that receive bulk parts, stage materials, and package products for distribution.
• Comfort working with technology investments and automation initiatives designed to increase throughput and efficiency.
• Ability to participate in and benefit from an Individual Development Plan (IDP) process focused on continuous skill development.
• Strong organizational skills for planning daily workload, staffing, and resource allocation across multiple shifts.
• Experience conducting safety observation tours and SOP audits to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
• Capability to collaborate effectively with other supervisors and departments to optimize overall shift and plant performance.

Work Environment:

The operation runs on three shifts: 1st shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., 2nd shift from 3:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Supervisors are expected to arrive 30 minutes before shift start for pre-shift meetings, and overtime is typically added at the end of shifts. A typical work week includes Monday through Friday at approximately 9 hours per day, Saturday at 9 hours, and Sunday at 8 hours as needed. Work on holidays is possible and occurs often, with the exception of Christmas and Easter. All candidates must be flexible to work any shift and should expect significant overtime, including 6 to 7 days per week and 9 to 12 hour days, with periods where days off may be limited. The facility operates with roughly 3540 supervisors per shift overseeing 25100 operators each, and approximately 1,200 union employees overall. The site is a parts processing center that receives unpacked bulk parts, stages them for packaging into GM or AC Delco materials, and then ships them to product distribution facilities that fulfill dealership orders. The environment includes multiple technology investments in equipment and automation to increase throughput and worker efficiency. Employees have access to multiple break rooms with food purchase stations, and supervisors work from an open-concept supervision room equipped with brand-new equipment and multiple conference rooms for meetings. The dress code is business casual, with no frayed, ripped, or torn clothing, no open-toe shoes, and no heels; shoes should be of leather-like material. All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and must be worn at all times on the plant floor, and earbuds are not permitted in production area.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Contract position based out of Burton, MI.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $34.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
