Medical Oncology Locum Opportunity – Virginia

An established cancer program is seeking a Board-Certified Hematology/Oncology physician to provide locum coverage for a series of weekly assignments. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing inpatient oncology patients, supervising an advanced practice provider, participating in research enrollment discussions, and providing call coverage.

Compensation: Open rates

Coverage Dates

Weekly Monday–Friday coverage is needed for the following dates:

July 13–17

July 20–24

July 27–31

August 3–7

August 10–14

August 17–21

August 24–25

Practice Setting

Primarily inpatient oncology coverage

Some outpatient responsibilities during physician vacation coverage

Adult patient population

Oncology and Hematology services

Clinical Responsibilities

Manage inpatient oncology and hematology patients

Provide limited outpatient oncology coverage as needed

Supervise and collaborate with a Nurse Practitioner

Participate in patient evaluation for clinical research opportunities

Support enrollment of appropriate patients into research studies

Provide call coverage

Coordinate care with the oncology team and support staff

Patient Volume

Average inpatient census: 12–15 patients per day

Adult patient population

Team Structure

Two physicians currently in the practice

Nurse Practitioner support available

Documentation

Epic EMR

Reason for Coverage

Physician departure and relocation

Qualifications

Required

Board Certified in Hematology/Oncology

Active Virginia Medical License

BLS Certification

Clean background for temporary privileges consideration

Self-Query NPDB report dated within 30 days of presentation

NPDB required at time of name clear

Ideal Candidate

Comfortable supervising advanced practice providers

Interested in clinical research participation and patient enrollment

Experienced in both hematology and oncology patient management

Available for one or more of the listed coverage weeks

Comfortable providing call coverage as part of the assignment
