TRAINER

Description The Trainer is responsible for implementing the Implementation Strategy (IS) as it relates to skills training and acquisition for the individual. Must also teach new vocational skills by training individuals on a variety of light industrial tasks, as well as implement positive support plans and record observations. This role will also have Substitute Van Driver responsibilities which will require candidates to pass a PACE physical and drug screen. Must be capable of speaking English clearly and fluently to communicate with staff, families, and individuals. Must be capable of writing English in a clear, concise, grammatically correct, and free of spelling errors. Must respond appropriately to individual behavioral problems. Requires sufficient strength, agility, and sensory acuity to be alert to client behavioral emergencies and to implement effectively with adults weighing 150 lbs. or more, confrontation avoidance, escape-evasion and emergency transport procedures from agency approved Safety Care and Behavior Management techniques Must act in a professional manner which reflects positively on herself or himself and Little Friends, Inc. /Spectrum Vocational Services. This includes demonstrating high commitment to customer service and customer satisfaction for all internal and external customers of Little Friends, Inc/Spectrum Vocational Services. Is aware of and follows the policies and procedures of Little Friends, Inc. /Spectrum Vocational Services. Is required to complete all training and re-certifications as per Little Friends, Inc, Spectrum Vocational Services as well as the Department of Human Services. Works cooperatively with Program Managers/QIDP and other members of the Support Team to develop the Personal Plan for each individual in the unit as needed. This includes but is not limited to: A. Attending discovery plan meetings, personal plan meetings and other meetings held to discuss the individual’s progress and participate as a cooperative and well-informed part of the team. B. Thoroughly, accurately, and legibly preparing data and reports needed to document the individual’s progress and to provide team members with information necessary to revise and update the Personal Plan and the IS. This includes but is not limited to strengths, preferences, needs and behavioral data. C. Reviewing the IS’s current outcomes and proposed outcomes with the individual prior to the meeting and obtaining the individual’s input on what he/she would like to work on during the upcoming review period. D. Thoroughly, accurately, and legibly completing the necessary reports, assessments, and services for each individual prior to the Annual meeting as applicable. E. Support each individual’s development of self-confidence and worth as a productive person by positively reinforcing socially appropriate behaviors. Implements the IS for each individual as outlined. This includes, but is not limited to: A. Working with each individual to formulate strategies that are realistic, observable, and measurable, meaningful, age-appropriate and which relate to the accomplishment of his/her outcomes. B. Assisting the individual to improve his/her working abilities and tolerances and to learn new vocational skills by training and supervising him/her on subcontract, clerical, janitorial and stock work assignments. C. Supporting each individual’s development of self-confidence and worth as a productive person by positively reinforcing socially appropriate behaviors. D. Ensuring that each individual is productively occupied during activity time when work is not available or if they choose not to work. E. Documenting progress on each outcome that is his/her responsibility. This entails tracking daily any training or observation carried out relative to the outcomes and consistently legibly recording monthly updates of the outcomes which include accurate and thorough data, pertinent comments and date with signature and title. F. Recording hours spent at Spectrum including work hours, activity hours, and community hours. Implements individual Positive Support Plans or Behavioral Procedures as written including accurate and timely data collection. Must also work with the Behavioral Analyst by providing written and verbal feedback on individual behavioral changes and helping to formulate practical and behaviorally sound strategies to address behavior problems. Maintains desk and work unit in an orderly fashion which allows for substitute staff to readily find and use all necessary materials, to include but not limited to file of individual positive support plans, working files of individual IS outcomes, individual’s client payroll sheets, emergency binder with unit list and emergency concerns. Ensures safety of assigned individuals throughout the workday. To include but not limited to: A. Ensuring that Emergency Binder is kept in the unit with an up-to-date individual list and any information needed to safely evacuate individuals in an emergency. B. Makes self-aware through review of files and discussion with other familiar with individuals of any medical conditions or behaviors which may require emergency intervention and the proper steps to take in such a case. C. In case of emergency evacuation or drill, ensures that assigned individuals evacuate the building quickly and safely and takes roll call against the unit list on the emergency clipboard upon exiting to ensure that everyone is accounted for. D. Visually observes individuals and keeps track of their whereabouts at all times to ensure their safety E. Ensures that other staff is assigned to cover work unit before leaving assigned individuals for any reason. Ensures opportunities for active involvement and learning during activity time which includes but are not limited to: A. Assisting in the development and implementation of a structured day program organized by month and week which promotes independence by teaching and enhancing independent living skills, social skills, leisure/recreation activities as well as community and group integration. B. Participates in planning and leading informational community and classroom style structured activities in one-to-one and small group settings. C. Transports individuals to community locations and ensures their safety and meaningful participation. D. Assists in the training of individuals in the areas of daily living, choice making, communication and work-related activities. E. Ensures proper documentation of records of individual participation in both activity time activities and community outings. Supervises the completion of work assigned to work unit. This includes but is not limited to: A. Ensuring the production deadlines are met for all jobs assigned to the unit. B. Ensuring the quality standards are maintained per instructions from customer and Production Team. This includes but is not limited to making visual inspections of completed and in-process work and conducting prescribed quality checks on up to 100% of units C. Ensuring that expenses from wasted or damaged materials are minimal. D. Ensuring that the unit conforms to all applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and Spectrum Vocational Services workshop rules. E. Ensuring that individuals are trained to complete jobs in the exact manner prescribed on the work order. F. Packaging, tagging, and placing finished work on skids as prescribed by the unit work order. Must be able to bend and lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly as a regular part of the workday. G. Ensuring that accurate counts of pieces are maintained and that finished pieces are packed in the correct increments as prescribed by the unit work order. H. Notifying the Work Service Program Manager of any problems with assigned work to include but not limited to quality problems with materials or work and discrepancies in paperwork. Physically assists individuals who require additional assistance after toileting is completed to include but not limited to cleansing themselves, after toileting accidents and hand washing. Meets regularly with other trainers, 1:1s and production department through scheduled meetings and at any other assigned times to: A. Share ideas and information relating to the effective delivery of program services throughout Adult Day Services. B. Share ideas and information about production related issues to include but not limited to quality issues and how to address them, best methods of setting up and training on specific jobs, temporary or permanent individual assignment changes to maximize their fulfillment of individual goals and most effective use of workforce to meet production goals. C. Discuss the agency and division Strategic Plans and how to effectively implement them. D. Share information about individual individual’s outcomes that would best be facilitated by all Trainers awareness and cooperation. E. Discuss common concerns to include but not limited to making suggestions for improvements and policy and procedures revisions. Hold periodic meetings with individuals in unit to discuss Spectrum policies, rules, and safety procedures and to serve as means whereby individual grievances and concerns can be discussed. Minutes of these meetings shall be kept on file for reference. Conducts group training and informational activities during activity time, using activity time curriculum developed by Spectrum Vocational Services and other appropriate resources. When necessary, work as a substitute in the Transportation Department by driving a van route using an agency van, or if requested obtain Pace Advantage Vanpool Certification. To obtain this certification the trainer must also meet all Pace requirements. Provides coverage for other work units as assigned. Participates in Strategic Planning for the division. Serve on teams and standing committees of Spectrum Vocational Services Provides break, lunch or other coverage as assigned. Serves as advocate as requested by individuals for the purposes of Future Planning. Salary: $20.55/hour
