About the Role 

The Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) Operations & Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of weight handling equipment in support of U.S. Navy port and installation operations. This position provides technical leadership and supervision to assigned personnel, ensuring equipment readiness, operational safety, and compliance with applicable Navy standards and contract requirements.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead and oversee daily weight handling equipment (WHE) operations, maintenance, inspections, certifications, personnel, and resources in support of contract requirements.
• Supervise crane operators, riggers, inspectors, and maintenance personnel to ensure safe and efficient equipment operations.
• Oversee the operation, inspection, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of cranes, hoists, rigging equipment, and associated lifting devices.
• Plan staffing, equipment assignments, maintenance schedules, and operational priorities to maintain equipment readiness and availability.
• Ensure compliance with NAVFAC P-307, applicable Navy Crane Center requirements, OSHA standards, and established lifting and rigging procedures.

• Coordinate equipment inspections, load testing, certification activities, and corrective maintenance to maintain operational readiness.
• Ensure assigned personnel maintain required training, qualifications, and certifications for their respective WHE duties.
• Monitor equipment performance, maintenance records, inspection findings, and operational deficiencies; implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate equipment inventories, maintenance records, inspection reports, certification documentation, and required contract deliverables.
• Coordinate with Program Management, Government representatives, safety personnel, and maintenance teams to resolve operational issues.
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, operational efficiency, safety, and overall service delivery.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in weight handling equipment operations and maintenance, including a minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory or management capacity.
• Demonstrated experience managing crane operations, rigging activities, equipment inspections, preventive maintenance, and certification requirements.
• Working knowledge of mobile cranes, overhead cranes, hoists, rigging equipment, lifting devices, and associated maintenance requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of NAVFAC P-307, Navy Crane Center requirements, applicable OSHA regulations, and industry standards governing weight handling operations.
• Experience supervising qualified crane operators, riggers, inspectors, and maintenance personnel.
• Ability to interpret and apply contractual requirements, technical specifications, load charts, equipment manuals, and applicable safety procedures.
• Knowledge of equipment inspection, load testing, certification, preventive maintenance, and operational readiness requirements.
• Applicable NCCCO crane operator or inspector certifications preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with work order systems such as Maximo preferred.  
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.  
• Must be able to maintain the ability to access the government worksite. 
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and a safe driving record, in accordance with company policy, to operate vehicles or equipment as required for the position. 

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• This position is primarily performed in an office setting; however, regular site visits and field inspections are required. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate active work sites when necessary. This may include standing, walking, bending, or climbing for extended periods while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Must be able to work on-call, alternate, and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
• Must be available on-site during Government working hours and capable of reporting on-site within one (1) hour after normal working hours.
