Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Required Qualifications:High School diploma or equivalentMust be 18 years of age or olderMust pass a character reference check as well as state and community fingerprint screeningMay be required to submit to a drug testMust be in good physical health and be able to pass a physical examinationMust know or be willing to learn to operate vacuum cleaners, carpet shampoo machine, and lawn equipmentMust demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities and alternatives as specified by the supervisorKey Responsibilities:Keeps premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and cleanCleans driveways, parking areas, and steps as appropriateKeeps the grounds free of rubbishPrepares seedling or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer or chemicals, if neededPlants seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce an attractive appearanceExperiments with different varieties of lawn and flower seeds to determine those best suited to the soilPrunes, trees, and trims hedges to promote growth and improve appearanceMows lawns with a hand or power mowerConnects sprinkling equipment and waters lawn and flowerbedsInspects flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests and sprays or dustsAdjusts and repairs such equipment as lawnmower, sprinklers, and hedge shearsCollects and disposes of leaves and refuseRepairs outdoor chairs and benchesWorks on custodial jobs as assignedReports major repairs needed promptly to supervisorPerforms other duties as may be assigned by the supervisorSkill, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements:Skills are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include operating equipment used in skilled trades, power and hand tools, etc.; adhering to safety practices; handling hazardous materials; and planning and managing projects.Knowledge is required to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes variety of skilled trades and safety.Ability is required to gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. In working with others, problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.Working Environment:Work may be performed outdoors in various weather conditions.
