BJC HealthCare is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) Surgical ICU Stepdown Lead for a nursing role in SaintLouis, Missouri. Overview Specialty: Surgical ICU Stepdown Discipline: RN Duration: Ongoing Employment Type: Staff Additional Information About the Role In our Surgical stepdown unit you will primarily support higher acuity transplant, abdominal, ortho, trauma patients along with ENT, Vasc, and plastic surgery. Full time, 3x12's. Nights. Sign on bonus eligible up to 15k. Must have 2+ years RN experience. The unit is a 19 bed surgical progressive care unit called 163PCU, caring for post‑op patients from Abdominal Transplant, Hepatobiliary Surgery, ENT/Plastics Surgery, and Ortho‑micro Surgery teams, as well as patients from Trauma/ACCS/Geriatric Trauma Surgery, Orthopedic‑Spine/Recon/Hand, Vascular Surgery, and other overflow teams. Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Experience: 5-10 years. Responsibilities Under the direction of manager, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a unit on a designated shift. Performs direct patient care as needed and functions as a clinical resource to nursing and support staff. Assesses, plans, evaluates, and documents the nursing process of assigned unit as needed. Facilitates identification and resolution of gaps in care from hospitalization, at discharge, and into the ambulatory care setting. Critically assesses patient data to proactively mitigate impending changes in condition and establishes consults with the interprofessional team as appropriate. Leads the development and implementation of complex individual care plans with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team, the patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Actively utilizes and champions scientific inquiry for evidence-based practices (participates in journal club, facilitates practice change based on new knowledge, recommends new standards of care or revisions to current standards, conducts literature search to support unit or organizational goals, disseminates new knowledge). Explores opportunities to advance nursing practice (supports community service health events, patient/family education groups, community advisory boards, ethics advisory committees, adjunct faculty roles, leadership boards in specialty organizations). Analyses gaps in practice standards and provides feedback to peers in collaboration with leadership to enhance safe patient care. Leads the evaluation of the patient and family experience, adjusting care provision to improve patient satisfaction and quality of care. Recognizes that this is a safety‑sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe practice. Minimum Requirements Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate's degree in Nursing. Experience: 2-5 years of nursing practice. Licenses & Certifications: RN.
