Barnes‑Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center hosts high‑risk cardiology units 9100/9200, with 25 beds providing complex care for patients requiring advanced medication infusions and post‑cardiac procedure care. Responsibilities Under manager’s direction, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a unit on a designated shift. Performs direct patient care and functions as a clinical resource to nursing and support staff. Assesses, plans, evaluates, and documents the nursing process for the unit. Facilitates identification and resolution of gaps in care from hospitalization to discharge and into ambulatory settings. Critically assesses patient data to proactively mitigate condition changes and establishes consults to interprofessional teams as appropriate. Leads development and implementation of complex care plans with defined goals, collaborating with team members, patients, families, and caregivers. Utilizes evidence‑based practices: participates in journal club, facilitates practice change, recommends new standards, conducts literature searches, disseminates new knowledge. Explores opportunities to advance nursing practice: supports community health events, patient/family education groups, advisory boards, adjunct faculty roles, specialty organization leadership. Analyzes gaps in practice standards and provides feedback to peers and leadership. Leads evaluation of patient and family experience, adjusting care to improve satisfaction and quality. Performs essential job functions requiring constant alertness and safe work practices. Minimum Requirements Education: Nursing Diploma or Associate’s degree. Experience: 2–5 years of nursing; supervisor experience not required. License: RN. Preferred Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Experience: 5–10 years of nursing and 1–2 years supervisory experience; heart and vascular specific RN experience desired.
