Toxicology Management Specialist (San Francisco, CA) The California Poison Control System (CPCS) is a 24‑hour hotline serving California residents. The CPCS is managed by UCSF School of Pharmacy, with operations at four UC‑affiliated sites including the San Francisco Division. We are seeking a Toxicology Management Specialist to provide telephone assistance to healthcare professionals and the public, assess potential poisoning cases, and deliver management advice. The role includes educating patients, documenting calls, participating in quality improvement, and contributing to scholarly activities. Key Responsibilities Provide initial management advice and follow‑up for emergency and informational calls. Obtain relevant information, assess the seriousness of each case, and communicate clear recommendations. Assist and serve as backup for Poison Information Specialists and Providers. Document all calls and consultations in the PCC electronic medical record. Assist with the development of toxicology management protocols. Participate in teaching, scholarly activities, research, publications, and professional organizations. Engage in quality improvement, case conferences, and rounds with hospitalized patients. Required Qualifications Pharm.D. Degree. CA Licensed Pharmacist in good standing (current or by start date). Minimum of 2 years of clinically‑oriented pharmacy practice or 2 years of Poison Control Center experience, or an equivalent combination. Excellent drug information skills and knowledge of pharmacology, toxicology, physical chemistry, and pathophysiology. Proficiency with computerized databases, reference texts, and back‑up medical consultants. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, adaptable to callers ranging from children to healthcare professionals. Adherence to all operational policies, protocols, standards, and applicable mission statements. Availability to work up to 80 hours over each 2‑week period, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Preferred Qualifications Postgraduate or clinical pharmacy residency/fellowship training. AAAPCC Certification as a Specialist in Poison Information or Diplomate of the American Board of Applied Toxicology. Involvement in scholarly activities. Willingness to work predominantly or exclusively night shifts. License / Certification Pharm.D. Degree CA Licensed Pharmacist in good standing (current or by start date).
