Telemetry Technician

The Telemetry Technician, under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), is responsible for facilitating the telemetry monitoring of patients on a shift‑to‑shift basis. Essential Functions Monitor cardiac rhythms continuously and ensure accurate ECG readings. Interpret and report changes in ECG rhythms to the registered nurse promptly. Prepare, maintain, clean telemetry equipment, and replace batteries and ECG leads before patient admission and after discharge. Document ECG data, including rate, rhythm, and interval measurements, in patient records. Assist in tracking patient locations during off‑monitor procedures and ensure ECG rhythm visualization upon patient return. Perform crash cart checks at the beginning of each shift to ensure availability and functionality. Provide comprehensive patient ECG history to incoming monitor technicians for seamless care transitions. Assist in training new associates in telemetry monitoring and procedures. Maintain admission and discharge logbooks and equipment logbooks as required by the facility. Department: Cardiac Unit – St. Mary’s Hospital Minimum Qualifications Basic Rhythm Certification required within 90 days of hire. Pass a basic dysrhythmia test prior to completion of orientation. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS‑HCP) Certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days with prior approval. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare setting. Previous customer service experience. Physical Requirements Visual and auditory acuity for operating monitors, identifying equipment, and communicating during emergencies. Manual dexterity for handling delicate equipment and frequent computer use. Ability to lift, transfer, and maneuver patients and supplies, including heavy items. Extended periods of standing in a stationary position. For roles requiring driving: ability to drive safely, see and read signs and signals. Location: St. Mary’s Regional Hospital, Grand Junction, Colorado. Scheduled weekly hours: 36. Hourly rate: $18.40 – $23.92 (actual rate depends on experience).
