One of the following: Official transcripts verifying an Associate’s degree (90 quarter or 60 semester) or 72 quarter or 48 semester credits from an accredited university, community college, or business school; or ETS ParaPro Assessment result of 461 or higher. One year of related experience working with children in an educational setting (preferred). Successful experience as part of an educational team (preferred). Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and conflict‑resolution skills and ability to think quickly. Experience working with children with moderate to severe disabilities (preferred). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective communication with and appreciation for individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to manage evasive and aggressive behavior of students. Ability to attend mandatory training on weekends and successfully complete district CPI and de‑escalation/physical restraint training. Proficiency with computer monitors, keyboards, and adaptive technologies. Ability to implement educational programs and manage student behavior under teacher direction. Maintenance of confidentiality. Flexibility with assigned tasks and schedules. Development of relationships and supportive roles with children possessing mental or physical disabilities. Other Requirements Capability to lift and restrain a child as required by the job. Independent and safe escorting of students within the school building, grounds, and the community. Observation and communication of student behavior to appropriate service providers. Regular attendance to fulfill duties and responsibilities. Essential Functions Treat co‑workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect. Serve as a positive role model for students. Work flexibly and cooperatively. Collaborate with teachers to implement and evaluate goals and objectives on individual IEPs. Participate in team meetings relevant to the position. Manage behavior and assist students during class activities in small groups or individually; provide instructional assistance as directed. De‑escalate students experiencing an emotional or behavioral crisis and apply behavior management plans. Dispense medication following district policy. Care for personal hygiene needs of students with disabilities. Assist with data entry, record keeping, and filing. Grade or correct papers and homework using a rubric or key. Observe assigned students on and off school grounds and intervene to ensure safety. Attend training meetings to broaden expertise with students with special needs. Assist students on and off buses as required. Perform other tasks as assigned by an administrator. Benefits and Compensation Salary: $26.19 to $31.89 hourly. Salary schedule: new employees start at the minimum hourly rate; experience credit may apply.
