What you’ll take ownership of

• Running high‑pressure steam boilers, cogeneration equipment, cooling water systems, compressed air, and water/wastewater treatment—plus all auxiliary pumps, valves, transmitters, gauges, alarms, and safety systems.
• Logging every shift: operations, maintenance, safety checks, test results, instrument readings, and equipment issues to demonstrate compliance 24/7.
• Maintaining continuous adherence to local, state, and federal regulations for air, water, and safety.
• Managing boiler fundamentals: water level control, combustion air supply, and fuel flow to burners.
• Testing and adjusting water chemistry for steam generation, process cooling, and wastewater.
• Watching the numbers—gauges, meters, charts—and keeping boilers within normal parameters.
• Diagnosing abnormal conditions and executing corrective actions to sustain uptime.
• Adjusting controls and valves to meet operating targets.
• Performing mechanical and electrical isolation for safe work (Lock Out Tag Out).
• Communicating conditions to the Utilities Chief Engineer and collaborating across shifts.

Must‑have credentials

• Commonwealth of Massachusetts Third Class Engineers License.
• 3+ years of experience with high‑pressure boilers and related systems.
• Ability to secure a Grade 3M or higher Municipal Wastewater License within 12 months of hire.

• Proven skills in Boiler Troubleshooting, Boiler Operation, and LOTO.
• Comfort with computers, diagnostic tools, and test equipment; ability to juggle multiple projects.
• GMP/food‑grade familiarity preferred.

Can you meet the physical and environmental demands?

• Extensive on‑foot rounds throughout the facility.
• Confined space entry and work at heights (boilers, cooling towers, storage tanks).
• Dexterity with tools and machinery; lift, push, pull, and carry up to 65 lbs.
• Frequent ladder climbs to access mission‑critical equipment.
• Exposure to all weather; occasional extremes of hot and cold; potential exposure to hazardous chemicals/conditions with mandatory training.

Shift structure

• 12‑hour shifts: Day 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; Night 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.
• Two‑week rotating pattern:
  • Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday (48 hours)
  • Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday (36 hours)
• Periodic rotation may include holidays and weekends.
• Role participates in a 24‑hour on‑call capacity and must be available to support a multi‑shift operation.

Travel and extras

• Travel is infrequent; may be needed for training or customer support.
• Uniforms provided; footwear allowance included.
