Reports to: Occupational Therapist Pay Grade: N17 Terms of 183 days per year. FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Employment: At-Will employment agreement. Salary is in the pay grade N17 on the Non- Exempt SAISD Compensation Plan. Entry hourly rate is $28.46 with consideration for directly related experience. The position is locally funded.

Job Scope

Uses some independent judgement and familiarity with the field to perform work. May provide input into the development of policies and procedures. May be responsible for the administration of moderate complexity departmental programs.

Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist Assistant is responsible for implementing intervention and therapy regarding students' fine and gross motor skills and functional abilities (e.g. perceptual-motor, hand functions, motor coordination, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) under the direction of the Occupational Therapist.

Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities

• Adapts school and classroom environment, tools and materials under the supervision of the Certified Therapist for the purpose of improving student functioning and facilitating student access to curricular and instructional activities.
• Assists Certified Therapist with assessing students' fine motor, and development skills (e.g. oral motor, sensory integration, motor planning, developmental function, activities of daily living, fine motor function postural tone, etc.) for the purpose of determining their deficits and developing recommendations.
• Consults with occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists, teachers, educational assistants, families, etc. for the purpose of providing requested information, reviewing/revising students' occupational therapy goals/objectives, developing plans for
• Maintains treatment equipment and supplies in clean and proper working condition for the purpose of implementing motor/therapy goals.
• Prepares written materials (e.g. activity logs, progress notes, reports, memos, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
• Assist with the development of the occupational therapy intervention plan as part of the IEP process; assist with data collection and administering assessments with established service competency documented.
• Provide direct, group, or consultative school-based services per student's individualized education plan or 504 plan that facilitate IEP goals and objectives.
• Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED, some formal college or equivalent work experience
• Valid Licensure as Licensed Occupational Therapist Assistant by the Executive Council on Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners.
• 2+ years of related experience
• Clinical experience in public school, annex and/or pediatric setting
• Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.

• Excellent ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, district personnel, and the community.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Knowledge of policies and procedures addressing specific duties/responsibilities of the position of a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant.
• Ability to adjust to and be flexible in a multitude of situations in the school environment.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions Work Environment:

• Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
• Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.

Physical Demands/Requirements:

• Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines; frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, pulling and pushing; reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity and prolonged data input; occasional lift/carry light, moderate 15-44 pounds.
