Staff Accountant

Summary:

Our award-winning client is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their team.A dynamic organization seeks a highly motivated and experienced Staff Accountant to manage the full payroll cycle and provide support to general accounting functions. This role encompasses payroll processing, general ledger reconciliations, accounts receivable management, and audit support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of accounting principles, payroll regulations, and excellent analytical and communication skills. Experience in a non-profit or government setting is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Manage bi-weekly payroll processing using Paycom, ensuring accurate timecard approvals and data entry.
• Prepare and upload payroll journal entries to Sage Intacct, ensuring timely and accurate recording.
• Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations and flux analysis for payroll-related accounts.
• Manage the annual W-2 preparation process.
• Administer retirement loan repayments.
• Lead payroll process improvement initiatives, developing and implementing effective solutions.
• Reconcile selected balance sheet accounts.
• Prepare grant invoices as directed by the Grants Accounting Manager.
• Manage and reconcile grant receivables, actively pursuing outstanding payments.
• Prepare the annual retirement contribution list as requested by the CFO.
• Assist with annual audits and government compliance audits.
• Support system enhancements within Sage Intacct.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of experience in payroll processing, with some general accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of FLSA regulations and other federal, state, and local payroll requirements.
• Experience working in a non-profit or government agency is highly preferred.
• Solid understanding of US GAAP.
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive attitude.
• Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
• Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

Certifications, Licenses, etc.:

• Valid California driver's license with access to a personal vehicle for company business and current auto insurance.
• Ability to pass required fingerprinting/background checks per Department of Justice and/or Title XXII regulations.

Computer Skills:

• Experience with Paycom and Sage Intacct is highly desired.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Excel is required.

Physical Demands:

• Standard office environment physical demands, including sitting, standing, walking, using hands and fingers, reaching, talking, hearing, and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

• Standard office environment. The noise level is typically moderate.
