Description DIVISION: Academy REPORTS TO: Lead Clinician SUPERVISES : None EXEMPTION STATUS : Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY : At BHA Academy, Behavior Interventionists serve as highly skilled practitioners in behavior interventions, supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and significant behavioral challenges. Working under the direction of the Clinician, Behavior Interventionists implement individualized interventions, model de-escalation techniques, collect and analyze behavioral data, and provide direct support across academic and therapeutic settings. This role combines clinical expertise, compassion, and consistency to promote meaningful progress and safety for every student. Behavior Interventionists also play a key role in training and mentoring paraprofessionals on intervention strategies, skill acquisition programs, and crisis-prevention methods. They collaborate closely with behavioral clinicians to ensure treatment integrity and contribute to the overall therapeutic culture of the Academy. This is a safety-sensitive position. Employees must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including maintaining continuous alertness, providing direct supervision, driving individuals served as required, and administering medications as trained QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in psychology, education, behavioral science, or related field preferred. Two to four years of experience in a behavioral or school-based setting, working with students exhibiting challenging behaviors. Knowledge and application of function-based interventions, data collection, and behavioral assessment tools. Certification or experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (RBT-level training required). Skills & Competencies Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Expertise in behavior de-escalation, data collection, and function-based intervention. Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered care. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Compassion with Purpose Build authentic, trusting relationships with students through empathy and respect. Implement trauma-informed and evidence-based behavior interventions that promote regulation, independence, and confidence. Approach every behavior as communication, seeking to understand its function before responding. Deliver consistent positive reinforcement, focusing on growth and self-efficacy. Support paraprofessionals in recognizing emotional and behavioral cues and implementing compassionate responses. Structure Builds Safety Establish predictable routines and structured environments that foster safety and learning. Model calm, organized behavior during transitions and crises. Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) with fidelity and accuracy. Train paraprofessionals on structured behavior supports and environmental arrangement. Ensure that all data systems, visuals, and reinforcement strategies are consistently implemented across environments. Professionalism in Every Moment Maintain composure, integrity, and professionalism during all interactions with students, families, and colleagues. Model appropriate professional conduct, language, and demeanor for paraprofessionals and peers. Collaborate with Lead Clinicians, teachers, and interdisciplinary team members to evaluate student progress and adjust interventions. Demonstrate accountability through accurate documentation, timely reporting, and consistent follow-through. Participate in supervision, professional development, and fidelity checks to ensure adherence to clinical and ethical standards. Education is Empowerment Collect and analyze data to guide instruction and behavior modification with the support of the clinician. Assist with skill acquisition programming and teaching new replacement behaviours. Support clinicians in assessment administration, data review, and progress monitoring. Train paraprofessionals to accurately collect data and generalize interventions. Model evidence-based teaching strategies rooted in behavior and the science of learning. Consistency Creates Change Maintain consistency in implementing interventions, recording data, and following team protocols. Demonstrate reliability and punctuality in all duties and responsibilities. Reinforce consistency among paraprofessionals and classroom staff to promote student stability and trust. Follow established de-escalation and crisis procedures with precision and calmness. Ensure reinforcement systems and environmental structures remain predictable and consistent for each student. Implement interventions that promote social-emotional regulation, adaptive coping and independence. Partner with clinicians and teachers to prepare students for successful transition and generalization of learned skills. Advocacy Through Action Advocate for student safety, dignity, and access to quality education and therapy. Identify barriers to student success and communicate them proactively to clinicians and leadership. Empower paraprofessionals through modeling, coaching, and collaborative reflection. Ensure all interventions reflect a commitment to ethical, person-centered practice. Other Duties Perform other duties and special projects to support various organizational initiatives as assigned. Participate in team meetings, professional development, and required trainings (e.g., PCM, Tools of Choice, CPR/FA, Mandated Reporting). Support personal care needs (toileting, feeding, hygiene, mobility) as outlined in student plans. Complete documentation accurately and promptly, including data collection, incident reports, and daily notes. Maintain classroom cleanliness, organization, and safety standards. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
