The breadth of our innovative programs provides the widest range of choices for every member of our team.The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant but will be supervised by DOHMH.The Center for Population Health Data Science (CPHDS)- launched in October of 2023- aims to catalyze critical data modernization work and enable the agency to make progress toward linking public health, healthcare, and social service for timely and effective public action. We are working towards making these data more accessible, timely, equitable, meaningfully usable, and protected – and actively used to protect and promote the health and well-being of New Yorkers. We aim to strengthen agency-wide data capabilities by empowering our workforce, enhancing intra- and inter-agency data sharing, and using modern technology to yield trusted and integrated data and insights. A real-time and comprehensive view of city needs is needed to enhance public health actions and improve health outcomes for the most vulnerable New Yorkers. This position will be based at the Health Department's office in Long Island City, NY, with the possibility of hybrid work.The Bureau of Epidemiology Services (BES) collects, analyzes and communicates data to monitor and improve the health of New Yorkers. BES provides statistical analytic support for public health surveillance, epidemiologic research, and program evaluations in DOHMH. Within BES, the Surveys and Data Analysis Unit (SDAU) leads data collection, processing, and analytic support activities for citywide population surveys conducted by the NYC Health Department, such as the Community Health Survey, and operates the NYC Health Panel, the Agency's in-house survey panel.SDAU is seeking a survey data analyst to support data operations and management, cleaning, and analysis for data collected by the unit. The analyst will primarily support the work of the NYC Health Panel, a survey panel maintained by the NYC Department of Health, but they may also contribute to data-related activities for other Agency surveys.Responsibilities:Creating datasets from raw survey data including merging, cleaning datasets and variables, that include recodes, labels, and formatsCreating analytic and final datasets, codebooks, and other supporting documentationUsing SAS and SQL to create and maintain survey implementation datasets, including invitation distribution lists, incentive lists, processing withdrawals, geocoding revised contact information, etcAssisting with requests for data analysis, data checking, or other related support as neededRequired Qualifications:Master's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of responsible full-time research or data management experience in the appropriate field of specializationExperience in data cleaning, and management; familiarity with health survey development or survey administration is a plusAt least one year of experience creating and maintaining SQL databasesExperienced using R, SAS, and/or SQLPreferred Qualities:Fluency in statistical packages such as SAS and SUDAANSkills in SQL database design and maintenance, as well as Microsoft Access for front-end interaction with the databaseExperience with applied data analysis and data management.Familiarity with survey implementation processesExperience developing protocols for data-related processesAttention to detailDemonstrated commitment to health equity and reduction of health disparitiesWillingness to check others' analyses and have their analyses checked by othersCollaboration skills, including ability to work with stakeholders from multiple parts of an organization to support their needsAble to interact professionally with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgroundsBenefits:Hybrid Work Schedule.Generous Paid Time Off and Holidays.An attractive and comprehensive benefits package including Medical, Dental and Vision.Flexible Spending Accounts and Commuter Benefits.Company Paid Life Insurance and Disability Coverage.403(b) + employer matching and discretionary company contributions.College Savings Plan.Ongoing trainings and continuous opportunities for professional growth and development.Additional Information:This is a temporary grant-funded position ending in November 2027This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date.Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties.This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.At PHS, we place immense value on diversity within our teams, understanding that varied backgrounds and experiences significantly enhance our community and propel us toward our goals.
