Job Overview We are seeking a Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor I (CSLTS I) to act as a Boiler Operator with a Stationary Engineer Certification at the Denver Correctional Complex. Description of Job Primary responsibilities include ensuring the safety and security of the general public, staff, and inmates; ensuring efficient and effective operations of assigned physical plant areas; and training and supervising inmate workers. The position promotes the Colorado Department of Corrections mission, vision, and values while adhering to a high level of integrity and commitment. Responsibilities Safety and Security – maintains safety and security of facility and work sites; trains and guides inmates in the use of controlled items, tools, equipment, and chemicals; enforces security procedures; monitors workplace environment; initiates verbal reprimands or applies restraints or use‑of‑force techniques; supervises inmate counts, transportation, and emergency responses. Supervision – provides supervisory duties for assigned inmate workers; sets work standards; trains and instructs staff and inmates in tools, equipment, procedures, safe work practices, and personal protective equipment; exemplifies a professional workforce. Inmate Supervision – participates in interview and hiring process; trains inmate workers in preventive maintenance, inspection, and repairs for boiler house and water treatment systems; monitors project progress, inspects work, ensures timely completion; performs evaluations, tracks hours and pay, schedules, and resolves informal grievances; prepares inmates for community reentry. Operations – ensures safe, efficient, compliant, and cost‑effective execution of assigned tasks and projects; performs hands‑on instruction alongside inmates; maintains cleanliness and safety through sanitation procedures, inventory control, and compliance with health and safety codes; coordinates logistics with other trades; documents work orders and incident reports. Boiler House – monitors chillers, boilers, generators, water treatment, and electrical switching devices; conducts testing, records results, performs needed maintenance and repairs. Minimum Qualifications Active Stationary Engineer Certification or equivalent (must be attached to application) Four (4) years of experience in boiler operations performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance. Substitutions Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or degree through an accredited trade school that demonstrates competencies equivalent to required experience may substitute on a year‑for‑year basis. Transcripts with course curriculum must be attached.
