College College of Natural and Social Sciences Position Title 2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool – History Department History Instructional Faculty – Part‑time Temporary / Lecturer Pool Position Details The History Department in the College of Natural & Social Sciences at Cal State LA is seeking applications for a pool of part‑time faculty lecturers. Positions will be available as needed during the 2026-2027 academic year and are filled each semester. Part‑time faculty lecturers are hired with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Hires from the applicant pool occur when instructional needs arise that cannot be met by existing faculty. Initial appointments are typically one semester, but academic‑year appointments are occasionally made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance. Faculty may need to be available on very short notice, often just prior to the start of the semester. Minimum Qualifications Appropriate degree from an accredited university (master’s degree for undergraduate courses; doctoral degree or master’s degree with substantial teaching experience for graduate courses). Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level. Ability to relate well within an academic environment and work effectively in a multiethnic, multicultural setting. Demonstrated experience and commitment to student‑centered learning and teaching. Proficiency in written and oral use of the English language. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment. Relevant professional work experience and training. Appropriate doctoral or terminal degree. Duties Instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties as assigned based on departmental needs. Courses, dates, times, and modality are assigned by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Salary Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Lecturer A ≈ 2 FTE: $5,507 – $6,677 per month Lecturer B ≈ 3 FTE: $6,221 – $13,224 per month Lecturer C ≈ 4 FTE: $6,825 – $14,523 per month Lecturer D ≈ 5 FTE: $8,593 – $15,211 per month Most new faculty lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. The anticipated monthly hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with qualifications and experience. United States Equivalency certification required for earned/awarded/conferred foreign terminal degrees.
